The entire series of this game are dead. Wait until Confrontation on PS3 and see what it does. Only time will tell.

There are problems with S:3 and S:CA but most of the maps are incredible and could be very enjoyable to play. The one and only reason that this game died is because we were given the gameplay option on every map. People quit playing games with a point and with strategy and started playing every map as suppression to see who could have the most kills. The game gets old really fast if that is the only way that you play.

Fact is you only need a credit card to play ranked rooms, so I agree and don't see how cc verification had a really negative influence in the number of players.
I don't see the game options killing the number of player, actually it should help retain players in all reality. If it was a simple matter of everyone creating suppression ooms and nothing else, I would think those who that negatively effected would just go and make their own convoy or whatever maps.
As was previosuly stated, it is probably just a combination of factors such as the fact that SOCCOM CA is pushing a year old, use of Code 9, universal and S3 glitches and people moving onto the next gen consoles. Plus school starting last week now has really killed the number of players on, but granted that also cleared out a lot of the let's just say, less mature players, so it isn't a necessarily bad thing. It jsut sucks right now because you have to wait awhile when you create a game to get joiners, whereas last winter you could make a room and it would fill up relatiely fast if you made it right.
Just my two cents...

Between SOCOM2 and SOCOM3 there was a big leap. Yes, I loved SOCOM3 in the beginning. But it started to get old after a while. Even though I loved the idea of big maps and more required teamwork. I just don't know.. SOCOM2 was still more addicting for some reason. I lost my interested in SOCOM3 and purchased a next gen console. I am pretty sure the others did the same.

What happened?
Zipper tried to do some good by giving gamers larger maps with more opponents to battle, and more ways to conduct battle with vehicles and an awesome weapon customization system.
The final product turned into a camping sniper's paradise as droves traded in their balls for long range, high powered rifles, and thus sucking the fun out of the game for the majority of everyone else.
This is probably one of the few times when you should hate the player, and not the game.

And thats the case for me, I love the (could be) gameplay, and the maps aren't THAT bad. THe online setup is still amazing (best in any game), but the people just make it suck complete and utter ***. COD4 beta FTW!!!

I still love the game, fun, especially with some friends and I play. Friend just got the game for like 15 bucks, and he loves it, its a fun game, enjoyable, I can still spend up to 3 hours at a time, not realizing it, and having fun.

I think you misunderstood my point. I still play S:CA and enjoy it. I play the game types that I prefer and have a good time. The point of my original post was that so many people have left this game because they get bored with it. I think that most of those who get bored with it do so because when they play they jump into the first suppression room they can find and lay down with a sniper rifle. The bigger maps, the vehicles, and the game play options should have made the new games in this series more team oriented. Unfortunately, since every map can be played as suppression, it has been the opposite because it is just easier to rely only on yourself and see how many kills you get. It is no wonder that so many people are tired of this game. In Socom 2 you were forced to play different game types on different maps and I don't ever remember hearing anybody say they were bored with S:2. If people would learn how to play the incredibly diverse and different maps on CA with different game types then they wouldn't get bored with the game. That is what I meant when I said the game type option is the biggest reason people have left the game.

My reasons:
1. Maps, they're too uneven. Only reasonable even maps I can think of are KF and Citadel with nades.
2. Weapon attachments. I think the basic guns in S3 are good but the attachments ruined them. Too many people grab Ghillie+auto+scope+silencer.
3. The ghillies, they should have never been put in the game. Not only do they encourage camping but there has been periods of time where people using them would turn invisible at some points.
4. The people make this terrible. There was some corner camping in S2 but in S3 it's in every game on every map. I understand with 3rd person shooters there will be some corner camping but in S3 it too out of hand.
That's really all I can think of for now, I'm sure some more will come to mind.

I was always fond of Waterworks. I though it was a well balanced map.

Zipper should've planned ahead for this. They should've made it that the ghillie suit was only available with sniper rifles, and occupied an attachment slot as well. Or, they could've done more work on reducing the range and power of silenced weapons.

I wouldn't have minded them not being in the game at all, but at the very least they should've been much more balanced. They should've had a greater weight effect on the character, and made them move a bit slower in order to balance it out. Those things aren't light.

That's why I'm coming to prefer FPS/OTS much, much more. A lot of that gets cut out because your field of view is reduced when sitting on a corner. An effective way to deal with this would be to move the camera in closer when you're standing up against a wall.
