This would be up to the developers, of course. I think once you initiate the knife attack, you cannot pull out until the target is killed. I doubt most people would attempt to shoot at you while you are slitting their teammate's throat, but in the event it does happen, both people would most likely die. I think it's common sense wether or not the person performing the knife attack would get the kill in the event of a grenade or wepaon being fired. If the throat has been slit, they are awarded the kill. If not, they both die by whoever shot at them.

Here's the real problem with a SOCOM knife attack online: Lag.
You know how annoying it would be to be laying prone, sniping while someone is behind you? They go for the knife attack as you get up to move to a better vantage point, you're moving quick, then all of a sudden you're in a chokehold with a knife in your back from someone who is 5-10 feet from you. That **** happened in Splinter Cell : CT. Laggy people could dominate with chokeholds, and it would be the same with a knife. That's why most games like CoD have a knife you can just run around and slash people.
In my opinion, keep SOCOM, SOCOM.

The knife attack takes a split second, not five minutes.

but if the knife attack is initiated by a laggy player while you're moving away, you'll most likely be killed from an unreal distance.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea. But knowing online games/SOCOM, there would be more problems and more complaining.
All we need is a really good, doctored-up version of SOCOM 2.

If a person is lagging (I don't think it's even an issue with the PS3), what's the difference if they slit your throat or put a bullet in your head? Either way, you die.

Aside from my usual COD4 problems, I have never seen any issues like lag when using the knife or being killed by one.
I just hate when you go to save a flag on domination only to be stabbed in the back by a camper in a ghillie suit.
I wouldn't suggest adding it to SOCOM since the last time I played it was 95% campers waiting around corners for easy kills with the P90. They will only do the same with a knife if given half a chance. If anything, just add a rifle butt whip or something like that, can't see how it will complain but it could be used to only stun the enemy or something like that.
NOTE: The last time I played SOCOM properly was June 2006 so my percentage on snipers could now be irrelevant, and and stuff like that.

The knife attack in COD4 is absurdly powerful. It can take you into a super death lunge like in Halo.

I agree, Teqila. If Socom does anything like that, it will severely ruin the gameplay.
