If you don't have two IP's, it will not work. You must have two IPs, one per machine, or else you MUST plug into a router, or the last machine to get online will not work.

Now, if you have two IPs, everything will work just as if you were at two seperate houses, and everything will be absolutely fine. Headsets will work, PS2s will work. Everything will be peachy-keen, until your computer switches on and goes online. It won't be able to go online while you have both PS2s up, unless you have THREE IPs.

Get the picture?

Four machines requires Four IPs
Five machines requires Five IPs
Six machines requires Six IPs...
and so on...

Now, if you have a router:

A huge number of machines (billions, perhaps trillions or much, much more) = 1 single IP, with a firewall, unless you turn it off, then things work just like your PS2s were connecting with their own IP.

That's the difference between a router and a hub.

What if no router?
hey guys,

What if you don't have a router? And your headset works fine on Madden and SOCOM I. It works fine in single player mode for SOCOM II, but it doesn't work online?

This really isn't my problem, but one of my friends has this problem... I think he said that he's ISP is qwest? or something like that...

But he says he doesn't have a router...and he still can't hear or talk on SOCOM II...

Anyone has a idea to why? I tried everything I knew possible...its driving us nuts, cause he keeps running over our mines...LMAO!!

Please help, before I get the most friendly kills in SOCOM II history...LMAO!!

how bout if your mic mic works and it allows you to talk but you cant hear anything on AND ALSO offline. when i adjust the volume in the audio options for my headset there is no sound in it. does anyone have a good diagnostic hardware check of the mic? like a good method to test wires and such.

or also some common errors that occur. i opened up the little black box(btw its the original socom mic) and all the wires and grounds are still connected to their original spots. i opened up the headset and all the wires seem connected to the speaker. AH

I have a Mac..... an Airport Base station as my router. I have a hardwired line to my PS2. singler player mode I can use my mic. When I get online I can't hear or say anything to anyone. I know you guys have provided solutions to PC users, but it would be great if someone out there could help me get my mic working on the Mac side...

.
Having a Mac or a PC has NOTHING to do with whether or not your PS2 headset works online.

It's whether or not you have a ROUTER/FIREWALL.

You need to open certain ports on your ROUTER, not your Mac (they're listed around here somewhere.)

I have a Mac too. Great computer, isn't it? :D

I noticed when I get booted and I log back in, about 75% of the time my headset will start working. And when I get booted again it will either stay working or it will be inop once again. I guess I get lucky with what IP address it throws at me. Cause thats the only way my mic works is when I get a certain IP address. I've opened up the ports that I was suppose to but I dont know if I didnt it right. I have belkin router and it does have a set firewall. Oh well. You wouldnt understand how bad I've been wanting to get booted just to be able to talk. I wish upon it everytime a new game starts.

I have a possible solution for those whose mics don't work at all... My mic wasn't working at all, so I unplugged it from my ps2 and tried to do everything like yankin wires around and all that. I noticed that the USB plug was loose in the ps2 USB port, so I took it out and squeezed the silver part a little bit to bend the thin piece of metal inward hoping to make a tighter connection. I plugged it back in and I could instantly notice it was tighter in there. I tested it and it worked like new. I don't know if you can tell what I'm talking about, because it's pretty hard to explain. Just thought that might help some people.
