Socom Confrontation on X-Play
X-Play has a nice little spotlight video up. Visually there's not a whole lot to see that's new, and the video quality isn't that great. However, there're some interesting tidbits of information in the video:

Dave Semmour, Design Director
"We've added true physics to the grenade system so grenades can now be thrown as before, but they can also be lobbed or rolled along the ground"

That's so awesome, rolling a grenade. Like rolling it under a door to breach a room, or under a vehicle. So many uses.

Seth Luisi, Director of Development
"With Socom Confrontation, we have two different forms of using the voice chat, so it really sounds like your character in the game is talking. You'll be able to use that to coordinate with your teammates, but you'll also have to be careful because enemies will be able to overhear your conversations as well"

If my hype-filters are working properly, this means we'll have in-headset chatter, as well as through-speakers proximatey chat. That's phenomenal if that's how it's going to be. Just like real-world conditions.

Rolling grenades has to be the coolest thing ever. But I'm still pretty upset about the way talking works.

Next time you're hanging out with some friends, take a flashlight. Use the flashlight in place of the button on the controller, so that only the person holding the flashlight can speak.

Then report back to us on how effective that is.

I read that about 6 times and I still don't get it. Is that the point?

I hate that over-the-shoulder view so much. Good thing they have the classic view as an option.

What I'm saying is that the new setup, if it's going to be how I've perceived it, will mimic real-world conditions. So if you and I were standing in the same room, I could just talk to you (open-mic), but if you were across town I'd have to call you (push to talk/headset).

I think it'll work out fine. And if it doesn't, it shouldn't matter because only like a 3rd of PS3ers use a mic anyway.

I'm used to it from other games, so it's no biggie. It's good to have more options though. As long as the movement system works properly, any view mode should be useful.

OTS is better than the old socom first person view imo. When you wanted to scope in socom 2, you went from TPS to first person to scope. I like this new 'substitute' for the original first person view because it just looks cooler, you can see your gun and character up close
