Folding@Home
Does anyone else here do this?
I started a week or so ago when I am asleep or not home.
I currently only have about 50 work units completed, though.
I'm on the Playstation Forums team and we're ranked 37 overall.
The leader of the team has almost 2,000 work units completed. It's insane.

I think FAH is a great idea. That's doctors/researchers really embrasing modern technology. It can only be a good thing. I'm thinking about putting it forward to my company to have it running in the background of all of our PC's. Not sure how that would affect CPU usage though. But there's thousands of us in the company so it could help.

I really should set my PS3 up to do this since it's probably not going to be used for anything until 9/16.

I used to leave my PS3 running and this would come on automatically, but I rarely leave it on when I leave it now.
I have only got 2 work units I think, took me a long time to get those so I won't even be reaching Scuba's 50 anytime soon.
It's great what it does and probably helps a lot, but I don't go out of my way to leave it running.

I would like to do it, but I don't.
The 360s ****** hardware has made me paranoid. I turn off and unplug every one of my consoles when it is not being used.

It is basically software on the PS3 that lets medical experts (At Stamford University I believe) use your PS3's computing power to do their tests and stuff like that.
You can set F@H to start automatically after a certain amount of time, a bit like a screen-saver for a computer. It provides the experts with the computing power, and you get a "Work Unit" after each project (lack of a better term) has been completed on your PS3.
You can then view an online certificate showing how many work units you have racked up, and various other stats and information. You can also join teams but this doesn't really mean anything.
There is no reward for using F@H so everything you do is just out of satisfaction in knowing you indirectly helping the medical world advance.
There are loads of different projects like that out there, but this is the only for for PS3.

Holy crap, this is awesome! I've never heard of this.
I plan on becoming an X-Ray tech someday, so I think anything that has to do with videogames and the medical field are all gravy.

LMAO... make that two of us, although I do trust the PS3 enough to leave it in "standby" mode, when it's not being used, of course.
When I first got my PS3, I was hoping that the "Folding" feature was something that might help me out with the folding of my laundry... sadly, I was mistaken.
