A buddy of mine is currently playing the beta, and he's not liking it.
He said people take more hits than in Halo, and the weapons have the worst recoil he's ever seen in a shooter.
I had been mildly interested in this game but after his feedback and the news that EA will make you pay an extra $10 to unlock the additional weapons that are already on your disk, I'm pretty sure I'm passing.

Yeah but it's a Beta, theres gonna be a few bugs. It doesn't come out till May/June time so they'll be fixed. I read this on wiki :
Multiplayer will support up to 24 players and feature the same large-scale battlefields found in previous Battlefield games. A new mode titled Gold Rush will appear in Battlefield: Bad Company. The setup of the game is an Attackers vs. Defenders scenario, in which one team must defend two crates filled with gold while the other team attempts to destroy the crates. Once the crates are destroyed, more of the map is available to fight on with new crates appearing, along with added reinforcement numbers. The attacking team has a limited amount of respawns to achieve their goal of capturing the 2-3 gold stashes. The defending team has an unlimited amount of respawns available, but their goal is to exhaust the attacking teams tickets (respawns). It has been confirmed that jets will not be available in multiplayer and also singleplayer because they will be too difficult for players to destroy, but DICE has assured that vehicles will still be a major part of the multiplayer gameplay.
Ascension
A multiplayer map set in a European village with infantry only combat. One of the smaller maps at 1km x 1km wide. Ascension includes lots of shrubbery and trees for cover as well as scattered houses throughout the terrain.
Oasis
A large multiplayer map set in a Middle Eastern setting. It includes land, air, and sea vehicles.
Hopefully its the run and gun of COD4 with fully desructable environments and vehicles!

But Blargian, you don't understand...this isn't a Beta. They call it that just so it makes you feel all special and warm inside. The game is a couple montha away, this beta=demo. They are not going to fix anything other than very serious issues. This is simply to gain hype, but I honestly think they lost half of their sales because of it. But that isn't going to save it, because the game is garbage!
I got a beta code yesterday, and the download wait was not worth it. This game is utter GARBAGE.
Maybe I have been spoiled by BF2 for PC, but whenever they try to make a similar Battlefield game on the consoles, they fail horribly.
Pros:
Graphics are kind of nice.
Cons:
You die instantly when you spawn.
The game is very clunky and slow.
You can't tell what is going on.
You can't hear people shooting at you from 30 feet away.
Frame rate drops like crazy when exploding things.
Controllers are terrible (button layout is unorganized).
Tank shells don't hurt anyone unless it basically hits them in the head.
Everything is so slow.
When holding some weapons the guy looks like his skipping flailing his gun around (who runs like that?).
M203 shots don't kill people most of the time.
Stupid looking crosshair
Bad vehicle controls.
Most of the weapons perform poorly. (weak, a LOT of recoil)
Gold rush mode is junk.
Kits are unbalanced.
When you start changing weapons you get lost in the poor button organization.
Apparently I am fighting robots because of all the shots they take.
No parachute, so if you want to get out of a heli, TOO BAD.
You can't zoom in on the mini map.
When you are sprinting, you are ****ed, it takes too long to switch back to your weapon.
No proning.
You can blow up walls with explosives, but you can't shoot through walls.
Jeep and cars are way too slow.
Horrible vehicle controls.
Teammate names are awkwardly off center and to the RIGHT of them...this results in WHO THE **** IS WHO moments when everyone is cluster****ing in the middle of the map.
Also that DLC thing is complete garbage. They lock things on a disc and tell you to pay 10 bucks for it. That alone makes me not want to give them my money.
Playing this game just makes me feel violated. *Reinstalled BF2 on PC* REINSTALL FASTER DAMMIT.

G4 are saying that a website is getting people together who are willing to boycott, or simply not buy, the game due to the DLC thing.
I thought the game looked really good and was looking forward to playing it, but I haven't seen 1 good review of it from those who have played the demo, so it's a no buy for me even if I had the money.
The destructible environment sounded cool though, I want to see it action just to know what to look for in other games with similar features.

I edited my post to make it more organized, and I actually added a PRO.
Sorry Blargian, you are going to have to look elsewhere. You really should just install BF2 on your PC, you won't regret it.

They are pretty much scripted explosions. Not really anything like Crysis where it is physics based. On a building, there are large patches that would be able to explode. You shoot that side of the building and it will explode exactly the same as every other time.

I recently "acquired" this game but haven't installed it yet. I had the PS2 version but wasn't impressed at the time. I have been getting a sudden urge to play the Russian Border map recently though so I might have a gander on the PC version.
Nightbringer tells me the PC version is totally different (and better) than the PS2 one so that's a plus. Do I need to sign up to GameSpy or anything like that to play online with the PC version? I think I can remember doing so for the PS2 one.

You have to make an account, I don't remember through what service though.
But dude, BF2 on the PC is not even CLOSE to the PS2 version. The PS2 version is garbage compared to PC. PC version is EPIC.

I've only got a run of the mill laptop so I doubt it'll run. Is it still pretty active online then?
