In my opinion this is the most difficult question facing gamers looking to purchase a new generation of consoles. We went through it with NES to SNES, Genesis to Saturn, N64 to GameCuber, PS2/Xbox to PS3/Xbox360, and now the question remains for PS3/Xbox360 to PS4/XboxOne. Do you trade-in your entire gaming library (console, peripherals, games) for pennies on the dollar to help get your new console and library started?

There are a couple of angles here I suppose. Various Pros and Cons. On the one side, your console will likely lose support (newer console generations that is, not our classics) for online play eventually. Game releases will taper off as the new console will becomes the norm. Friends will be playing multiplayer on new games instead of reverting back to older games. That covers the online and social component, but what about nostalgia and replay value? As a gamer I guess you ask yourself if you really want to lose the ability to play any game of your extensive historical library for the last generation game. Do you want to lose your game files and saves? What about the next time you want to pop in a classic to your old console for a couple hours of nostalgic gameplay?

I guess this has lost its value from PS3/360. I certainly still get the urge to boot up my PS2 from time to time, but I have not pined for my Xbox in any shape or form. The other answer to this may be the resurgence of classic games in the form of digital releases. Sony is paving the way for future consoles with their retro game downloads and release of PS1/PS2 classics for download. Could this be the new norm? Would certainly remove my need for the old console if I still get to play the old game, right?

Personally, I traded in my Xbox and all games (except for a couple) for the purchase of my Xbox360 all those years ago. I didn't give it a second thought, and I don't regret it one bit. I would never trade-in my SNES, Genesis, N64 or PS2 at this point, but I feel I won't get the same warm fuzzy feeling 10 years from now when I would plug in the 360 as I do with the N64 now. It's completely different. The new technology almost prohibits replayability once the next best thing comes out.

So, the question remains, would you (or did you) trade in your PS3/360 and games for your new PS4/XBO? Or would you keep your old console and games for whatever reason you decide?

Personally, I chose option D... win 2013 Fantasy Football championship, pay for a PS4 with less than half of the winnings

I actually still have my PS3, sadly now it's the living room alternative for blu-ray playing/netflix, so that I don't have to use up the PS4 for it (although I still do, dumb me)

Sounds like the same thing that I did... got a PS4, then (quickly) moved/retired the PS3 to the living room for other things.

Now that Destiny has arrived, GTAV can't get here soon enough on the PS4.
