It certainly doesnt look better than the 360, but so far I am impressed with the hardware and system upgrades.(Never change those inputs again ) What are your first impressions?

Well, as far as the event itself, there was nothing there they couldn't have just put into a release like a normal company.

As far as the unit itself, I haven't seen any 100% confirmed specs yet. What I have seen is a company that is trying to replace all of the boxes in your entertainment center with one box -- theirs. That's nice and all, except it's been tried before and failed -- several times.

So the question is, where does that leave the gamers? Sadly, I didn't see enough at this announcement to tell that either. So... now we wait for E3. Between now and then, there's going to be a lot of people talking about clouds and games that require them, a lack of backwards compatibility, and that you can't put someone else's copy of a game in this machine without paying Microsoft a fee.

I don't know what they were hoping to gain from all this... but I don't think it was what they got.

I'm way more excited about the xbox one (I'll call it x1 from no until forever) than the PS4.

The only thing that's putting me off is the forced Kinect usage, I've been a 360 owner since long before Kinect came along and I seem to function without it just fine so why force me to use it now? It's uses are just a matter of convenience with it recognising you and loading up to your profile but I'm still quite happy pressing a couple of buttons as I do now. The always on aspect also scares the **** out of me and I genuinely don't have anywhere to put it.

I don't care about used games, lending/borrowing, multiple people on the console so their unclear plans on installing games pc style don't concern me too much.

As I remember it has a blu-ray drive, 8gb ram, a 500gb hdd, usb3.0, hdmi in and out and built in wifi. I forget the rest but you get the idea. The slightly redesigned controller has a none-removeable rechargeable battery, redesigned bumper buttons/triggers and vibration in each analog stick. It can also record your gameplay which it's thought to do when you get an achievement as well as on your demand. The TV through console feature is interesting but its not clear what exactly it does. There's no pricing details for any part of it abd it is due for release around the world christmas time. Every console also ships with the new kinect sensor which has a wider and clearer field of view.

As it stands right now, I'll be getting it as soon as possible despite the probable high price, shortages, console failures, live outage, and the fact I'll probably be unemployed at the time.

Edit:The new vibration in the controller is actually in the triggers, not the analog sticks. The battery pack is also removable and the standard power for it is the ol double A batteries. The controller also looks to have a micro usb port.

UPDATE: My earlier post was my initial reaction. I have since then read significantly more behind-the-scenes Q&A articles coming out of Washington. I made a little video to some up what may have been the worst announcement in history and facilitate the distribution of my condemnation.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I'm not buying either console until 6-7 months AFTER they launch.

5 Features of the New Xbox That Are About to Ruin Everything | Cracked.com

Yeah, I'm not buying into Microsoft's bull****. Lots of unnecessary features, don't like the direction they're going with it, always on kinect seems invasive, always active internet connection is blasphemy, and I feel like they're going to nickel and dime you in any way they can. I know I can't have a genuine opinion until both systems are released or have more information, but this press conference rubbed me the wrong way. I'm a gamer at heart, and I don't need this other ****. The 360 has some great exclusives, but I've been more impressed with what Playstation has put out this generation. My friends who have only owned a 360 this generation are so head over heels with the Xbox one, and I can't help but roll my eyes.

So yea, it's preorder price here is 599 which is around $900 and most of the main features shown in the reveal aren't available in the UK.

Let's just say I've changed my mind about buying one, no way is any console worth 600! Maybe things will change before release.

Is that a rumor or is that a real pre order price? Didn't they learn from PS3's mistake?

That's the actual price on Amazon, the PS4 is the same price so that's why I'm thinking it might change.

Amazon can post all of the crazy preorder prices that they want to, but the fact still remains... I'm not buying either console right away.

That sounds highly unlikely. I couldn't see the final retail price being above $600. Amazon wouldn't want to say a low end price though, because if they found out they were wrong they would get a hoard of douchebags saying they lied and want the original price.
