So the past couple of days when I turn my XBox on, the disc would make a lot of noise then I would get a message saying the console isn't reading the disc and to try cleaning the disc and restarting the console. This worked, until today. Now, I don't think the drive is even trying to read the disc at all, or any other disc I put into it for that matter. XBox support just says to clean the disc, remove any memory, and restart. Anyway, that doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas to help solve the issue or should I just assume it needs to be repaired?

your dvd drive probably died. If you have an older 360 or elite box I can show you how i replaced my drive. I opened it found out the exact make and model of the drive, bought a new one for 30 bucks online and took out the old dvd drive mobo and put it in the new one. installed it and boom worked again. let me know if you want more info.

Thanks for the feedback. I found a helpful video that shows a handful of things that could be wrong with the drive and how to fix it and it may help me solve the problem. I opened up the case to find out I need Torx screwdrivers to get into it further. Once I acquire them and get into it I will try to see if any of those could be the problem, if not, I will try buying a new drive to see if that will fix it. I'm blown right now cause I miss playing BF3 but I'm going to Atlantic City tomorrow so wont be able to get around to it till probably Wednesday. I will hit you up if I need more info brotha.

I'm in a similar situation, my 120GB elite keeps freezing up, got a feeling it's a heat issue. I can't get through more than an hour of gaming without it dying. It is in a really hot place but there's nothing I can do about that.

Think I'm going to buy a new 360 and use this one as my project, been wanting to open it up for a while and I won't be pissed off if it breaks.
