    Hey there,

Im wondering if I can get suggestions for appropriate games for my nephew who is about to get the xbox for his seventh birthday. Is he too young for shooters? Do I have to hide Halo from him? What's a good game that will get his mind working, but is fun?

    Thanks!

Most shooters are pretty mindless to me. I think Halo is pretty safe, since most war games games are more violent, while Halo is more cartoony. Me personally, I don't like the idea of young kids playing shooters, not because of the violence but the ignorant and terrible stuff people say. If they're into sports I think FIFA is incredibly fun. Skyrim just came out, and I think a 7 year old would get a kick out of theme of the game, but it might be a little advanced. I'd say Batman: Arkham City would be your best pick for kid though.

Thanks for the response. I didn't even think of online and the potential stuff he would hear. Bat Man looks awesome and perfect for him too.

Try any of the Lego games, they are pretty fun and obviously pretty safe for kids. Any racing game should be good too. If he gets the Kinect, there are good kid games for his age that I am pretty sure he would enjoy, not only because its a video game but because he becomes the controller. On second thought, he might be too young to understand how the kinect system works but you never know. I think your best bet would be to go to a gamestop and ask the sales person and go from there. Good luck.

Tintin, sounds and looks quite good and cute. Also, it's only 14.99 0n Amazon. Got some nice reviews from players too. The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn - The Game: Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games

Far more age appropriate, plus they have games that are actually fun for his age. Otherwise, if you wanna save $100 just buy him Pajama Sam :p
Back in 1994, which would've made me 6 years old, I got a sega genesis and NHL 94 for Christmas, and I consider it the first game I was hooked on. Nothing wrong with sports games, and now I'm going to go feel sorry for myself on how old I'm getting.

    All great responses, thank you!

I agree about the Wii, but his mother already bought him the xbox. And DieNasti reminded me that she did get the Kinect for him as well. I'll be heading over the the game store tomorrow.

    Thanks everyone!!!

Oh and another thing, should the internet connection just be cut from the xbox the entire time, up until a certain age? Are the parental controls good enough to only let it use the net for game updates?

Good question, I'm not sure how the parental controls will hold up against someone using bad language on their headset or otherwise. It's your choice but XBOX live is deffinately a better choice than a PC with full Internet access.

If it's really important he's not exposed to cartoon type violence or bad language I'd say the only option is to not allow him online, there should be plenty of time for multiplayer when he gets older and he'll no doubt have lots of fun offline.
