Xbox 360 Hardware / Media / OnlineDiscuss general aspects of the XBox or XBox 360 and their respective online experiences. Including hardware & media devices. 360 Exclusive Games could be discussed below.
Last week, Microsoft's Shane Kim told us that the launch of the 360's motion-controlled camera system - Project Natal - would be as big as a console launch. Maybe he was onto something with that.
Because 1UP are reporting a rumour that while Natal will be released next year for existing 360 consoles, it will also be released next year as a standard inclusion with a new Xbox console, due out in the Fall.
This console won't be as "new" as we're accustomed to with console generations; rather, 1UP say it'll be a slight improvement over the existing Xbox 360 technology, with games able to run with slightly faster framerates, or with slightly better graphics than those on the "older" 360 consoles.
Sounds crazy, but as 1UP point out, it's not that different to what Nintendo did the Wii; repackage existing hardware and re-release it in a new casing with a new control method.
I don't know how I like (or put much stock in) the idea of two 360 consoles, especially two with varying hardware configurations; what's to stop developers from optimising for the more powerful unit and leaving owners of the older 360 with a sloppy, sub-standard product?
Hopefully that's not a problem, and if true, the "new" console is just a rebranded, repackaged 360. Maybe in a smaller box, with a snappier name. First impressions, fresh start and all that.
We've contacted Microsoft for comment, and will let you know if/when they get back to us.

Talk in a 'manly' & 'threatening' manner...and add a little 'fear' to your tone... Also, make sure to have a look on your face like the end of the world is near. Especially when talking about Obama. Do this, and you'll get 90% of the dumb ones (all races) in this Country to believe everything you say.
If it is "slightly better" frame rate and "slightly better" graphics I better be able to take my 360 into GameStop and get this new Xbox for under $20.
Either way, I'm happy with my current 360. Frame rate is fine and the graphics are fine.
I'll be impressed when they show me slightly better graphics than Gears. And if I'm not mistaken, it runs at 60fps.
I could already see it now.. In shooter games...if someone is taking a lot of hits, the other team will blame it on their *New* 360 and their altered frame rate.

That's the best Microsoft could come up with for a new system?
It would be nice if they made their graphics superior to PS3 and the system played Blu Rays but I'm extremely happy with my Elite right now. I'd say put production off for another 2 or 3 years and come out with something that will blow our minds.

Well I think if they did that they'd price themselves out of the market....

Well people have a habit of doing that because i guess they don't want to look like nOObs or losers. Which is pretty dumb in my opinion, many times when people lose they blame it on something other than themselves, kind of like "oh my controller is broken or defective" "My tv shut off and i couldn't see what i was doing" lmfao.

For a second I was sitting there like "what does that have to do with this", then I realized you meant being shot not... taking hits...

You guys think this is bad? Ha. Most annual product revisions, everything from cellphones to automobiles, are little more than a slight change in appearence. Hell, look at the new iPhone that all the droogs are dumping hundreds on because it's a little faster, has a compass, and has caught up to the rest of the cellphone world by including such revolutionary features as voice dialing, video recording and multimedia messages.
Most people are idiots and will spend money on something they're told is better.
That said, I'm really interested in Natal, but I'm not sure how the setup will go in my house where my TV is 15ft from my Xbox. I don't want a bunch of wires going across my living room.
The generation of consoles after this better be able to run games at 120Hz (fps), at least in my opinion.
If they release this and consider it apart of the next generation consoles, that would be just like calling the Wii next gen, doesn't make any fucking sense.
There isn't a chance in hell that Microsoft was hoping Natal would be viewed as a new console altogether. Sony did the same thing with their motion controller. Nintendo's been doing it, and added onto it with the damned Motion Plus.
The fact is, if one of the Big Three didn't come out with a new spin on motion control, chances are they'd come in dead last in sales. But Natal, PlayStation motion controller, and Motion Plus weren't designed for people that would come to a forum to discuss it. They were designed for the casual gamer. The Big Three understand that the hardcore gamers are either deidicated to one specific company, and htats not going to change any time soon; or, they have all three consoles. E3 09 was all about selling consoles, not games, and that's the way most conventions are. With all due respect, I don't see why this is a shock.
Also, I'd like to point out an article in Issue 194 of Game Informer. XBox's senior director of global marketing stated "We're not even halfway through the Xbox 360 lifecycle," implying that the 360 may last ten years. Nintendo and Sony representatives made similair statements.

*runs to Google*
Graphics are all about the gaming devs...not the console. Graphics processors units (aka video cards) only process what the code tells them to. This especially rings true with consoles.
What this Xbox will do is make your Gears run better, not look better... which if it is something you'd like to see then this new console may be for you. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on it. As I believe the Xbox is not fully equipped to handle the Unreal Engine properly. I hope they made an attempt to reduce heating.

So am I...I'm ready to slap some ballz while mad drunk
What's nice about Microsoft is that they actually fix their buggy shiz over time... can't say that for some other company's.... *cough* EPIC!!!!!!
I am definently not going to get this at launch. I am interested to see the price though. If its under $500 I think I will buy it. Just not a launch version. I think we all know why too.

Microsoft isn't that stupid (Price Tag wise)...they already know they are going to lose their asses when they release this... but Microsoft has plenty of other revenue streams to absorb this cost.
What they are really trying to do is improve upon a system that already has flaws, which they admit was their collective bad. They have admitted they are young to the console market and that they want to be more involved. This way they retain their customer base...and hopefully bring in some more. There is a reason why Microsoft is so damned rich, big, and overall awesome... and it ain't because they've produced shitty products over the past x amount of years they've been in business.
I really think that if people really want to see NATAL in its full glory... this is the xbox release they want to run it on. Which is why I will continue to research this thing. All other positive overflows were common sense (such as Gears running better). I won't be shocked if you see Ninetendo and a Sony follow the same suit (if they can convince customers... at this point Sony really can't cause they put out a console that is about 5 years ahead of its time)... Microsoft knows how to do business right!
Microsoft started releasing what is called "Release Candidate 2's" in alot of their other products... such as Office, Microsoft Server, and other business related products (which is why many don't hear about it... how often does someone besides System Admins read up on other Microsoft based stuff?)... they do their homework and understand that most people don't buy their first release because they have indeed released crap that they expected their customer base to beta test... but over the past 3 years I have been seeing that they are starting to realize this is not the way to do business anymore. Microsoft doesn't like the fact that Apple has a legitimate holding in the home based computer market now.
They have a whole new ethos of developing and its starting to make me believe that they do this kind of stuff because they actually do enjoy making quality products. If you need some truthiness... go google Office 2010... THEN come here and tell me what you think.
BTW, China and Japan have already got an EPIC hard-on for windows 7...they can't wait to try and hack a copy... cause they are just as cheap as us.
