Microsoft extends warranty for "E74" failures
Im only going to leave this stickied for a little while...long enough to get the word out.
For a few months now, Xbox 360 users have been quietly venting about a "new" hardware fault with the console, where instead of displaying three red rings, machines would show an "E74" error.
Just because it didn't flash the iconic red rings, though, doesn't mean it wasn't bad! If you got it, your console would display a system error warning (pictured above), and it meant your machine was fried. Which is probably why Microsoft have decided to issue an extended warranty for the fault, similar to the one offered to red ring sufferers.
While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays "E74" on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007.
That's the, uh, "good" news. The better news? If your machine suffered from an E74 previously, and you had to pay for repairs, Microsoft will refund you the amount some time over the next 4-12 weeks.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water! leave your 360 alone without fear of it falling over and dying!
Sorry. I didn't read any of your post other than this one sentence, because it just instantly caught my attention.

No, I think he was just pointing out the irony in their comments about there only being a "small percentage" of people who have experienced such hardware failures.

I knew that! I was just testing your skills! Gotta make sure you're still sharp and all

Funny. When I dropped off my " Coffin " at the local UPS distribution center the lady that scanned it in knew exactly what it was in that box. She said there was alot of these coming in as of late.
As soon as I get that one back I'll be sending off my other one with the exact same E-74 problem.

Same thing happened to me. The particular day that I brought mine in, she said she had already gotten 4 earlier that same day.
Ive had it for almost 5 years. its not hard to get the on time if its just on all the time, so ive probably gotten more like 24,000 hrs of ontime. and because of the weak laser i didnt want to turn games off becasue there was no telling when it would read the game again, plus its my media hub.

this went through perfectly! didn't think it would happen.
Got my 360 back a day earlier than scheduled. Taped to the 360 was a Free Month of Gold . Not bad compensation for only being without my 360 for a total only a week and a half.
Mechanical failures aside I still feel strongly satisfied that Microsoft compensates for all inconveniences right down to the free shipping. I tried getting into my PS3 while my 360 was in surgery but just couldn't. Pretty sad when a console sucks so bad that it causes you to not even get mad over its competitors breakdowns and can't wait to get it back to play it instead of the alternative.
