pretty impressive. just shows you how powerful a stupid little sound and "achievement unlocked" pop up can be. at this point on the next Microsoft system they would be CRAZY to not keep them going......
my only question would be this...will achievs carry over to the next system? if not oh well...but would be nice if they do...especially if its backward compat.

Achievements need to step it up though. There's a whole realm of integration waiting to be tapped into. Achievements that unlock game-related dashboard themes, or avatar outfits for starters.

AGREE 100% we can only hope man...to me that would make me happier than getting most achievs themselves.

Or even have achievements unlock in-game items, cheats or modes. Really, that's just lack of imagination on the developer's part. There's no reason why they couldn't have some sort of crazy weapon be unlocked when you got an achievement.

Thats totally up to the developers, but i dont think its something they can enforce like they can mandatory achievements. In sonics Ultimate genesis collection, more games and videos are unlocked by getting the achievements, depending on which games you got them in. In soul caliber, more character creation items are automatically unlocked the more achievements that you get. Its all up to the developer, but then you get people that complain about not getting these items and things just because they aren't skilled enough or dont care about achievements, or you have some games that the achievements are just too time consuming for the majority to even give a shit(tales of vesperia :-/).
Who knows what the next system will bring though, Microsoft has said that they want thier next console to focus on the end user experience rather than tech specs, so i could see more done with achivements and who knows what else.
Lu, achievements will carry over to the next xbox system.

I can understand people feeling those ways, and I think developers should take those concerns into consideration.
For example, difficult to get or time consuming achievements should'nt award you with game-changing things. Awarding stuff like different character outfits, weapons and items for single player would be fair.
If you're going to have an achievement that unlocks something like an additional game mode for play, then that achievement shouldn't be extremely difficult to get. Like make it for playing through the game on a certain difficulty setting or something like that.
I'm glad to hear that there are games that already do this. It'd be nice if more games did it though.
The Maw does similar stuff. It unlocks gamerpics and themes when you get so far in the game. It's not quite achievement = stuff, but it's along the same lines. Great game too.
Also, there is absolutely no way in hell MS would not carry achievements over to their next console. I'd be a bit miffed if my score just got reset to zero when they drop the 360, and there are people with a damn sight more achievements than me that would be really pissed off.
achievements are great but i agree 100% the should be linked with unlockables on MOST games! it would give them so much more meaning then just some points!
Also points should = XBOXLIVE money :)

I really dont feel like searching fro it, but it was on ign i think, it was an article about microsoft saying this generation is going to last longer than usual. Then they throw in a tidbit about thier next system focusing on the end user experience and utilizing the the same aspects of 360 live, specifically, achievements.

Achievements annoy me. Eventually people get to the point in which they say to themselves ' forget it...im gonna try and enjoy the game for what it is.'

Heh... considering the story might have come from the IGN camp, I'll take their story with a grain of salt... a grain of salt that's the size of Delaware.
