Whats the point of crouching and strafing when you can prone? It just makes you a bigger target.
IMO one of the biggest advantages to being a sniper is staying low and undetected for that one shot.

If you're detected, i'd advise you to not stay proned in one spot. One of the key advantages to sniping, is to snipe other snipers. If you're detected, you want to jump around and a bunch of other ****, and then start to strafe a little to one side, and mix it up a little once you see the other guy trying to shoot at you, so the opposing sniper has a harder time hitting you.
Once again, if you're NOT detected, do your best to steady the scope and go for the shot. Which includes proning, or whatever you think works better for you.
