TACTIC #31 - Use the spots that nobody else uses
This tip is the latest addition to my FAQ:
#31 - Use the spots that nobody else uses
Yeah theres tons of them on every map. One of the fun things about Socom is I'm always finding new spots to ambush people from. By using the spots that nobody ever uses, it gives me a much higher chance of success. At first when Socom came out, you'd expect the other team to look in every nook and cranny for you. But after a while, especially that since the game has been out forever now, everyone knows everything that every other good player does, and it's just repetition. Theres so many places on every map that players no longer even worry about, simply because they know that "Nobody uses that spot". Everyone is guilty of this too. You walk by spots without even worrying, simply because you haven't seen a guy there for the past 50 times you played that map! So be the one to use it and get them by surprise while they walk by without even worrying about it! It might not naturally be the best spot, but now that the game has been out a year and a half it's a great spot because NOBODY uses it, thus nobody expects you. Or theres those other spots that nobody would expect you because "Only noobs hide there. He can't possibly be stupid enough to hide there". So surprise them by using a noob spot! Again, the bottom line is finding small spots where people can't see you and that people don't anticipate you to be.. for whatever reason.

Hear hear. For each map, i have a small repertoire of unconventional spots. Although it might seem like you should use a new one each round, i often use the same ones, but at different times in the rounds. I might be somewhere in the beginning of a round, and then next round be in the same spot, but only at the end of the round. This is mainly because people tend to check hiding spots they have seen enemies in only during the times they saw the guy in there before. For example if you get killed by a guy with an sd from behind some rock while you were rushing, most poeple will rush to that rock and nade it and/or jump in there, expecting to catch the enemy by surprise. What i would do is just go back there later in the round, since the other team has the false idea that once they check there, it will be clear for the rest of the round.

Hey Al, good tip, but would you mind posting an example or two to help us less creative folk out? I won't use any of your spots...promise . I'm thinking that maps such as Crossroads, Fish Hook or Desert Glory might be a bit hard to be original on, simply because everyone plays them so much. I keep thinking, but I just can't think of anywhere that I've never personally been ambushed from. Perhaps the Garage in Desert Glory? The tents near the bomb in Crossroads? Guess this is why I'm not a Tips and Tactics Mod... Keep up the good work!

Umm ok for a good example tonight I was playing Crossroad as Terrorist. I had the bomb and it was me versus 5 people so I was camping out chilling.
The spot I chose was on the far left side corner, just beyond the stairs, in the little corner behind the left stairs, just below the far back of the left side stairs. I had my crosshairs on the far north wall by the dumpster in case a guy came from that way. Guys going by above me never look down in that corner. When was the last time you did? You take a general look out but never directly down in that corner. Of course I had nades out, so if they were coming from the other directions or running by, their guns wouldn't go up and I knew they wouldn't look in that exact corner unless coming from that one, far left direction, around the dumpster. So needless to say a guy came running from my left going back towards the Seal far left dumpster, and I heard him and killed him from behind as he ran by.... before he even saw me. Then I went to plant the bomb and got killed a few seconds later, but anyway, the spot was good and I was hanging out there for a good while waiting for the kill. Meanwhile they searched all the obvious spots that people are usually hiding in.
Another good one is Seals on Nightstalker. On the far right, just maybe 15 feet past the top of the right stairs, theres a small clump of grass. If you crouch and lean right your basically hidden behind it and it works great with an SD. The problem is your vulnerable to nades here, that area always gets naded but this spot is awesome a minute or two into the round.
How about Seals Crossroads, behind the left side dumpster? Everyone looks there when theres one guy left and 45 seconds, but what about early in the round? I bet if you ran back there and just chilled out for a little bit, sooner or later 1-2 rushing Seals will come running by NOT EVEN LOOKING because it's just too early in the round and nobody expects that.
I'm trying to think of more, but thats the reason it works. It's impossible to name except for saying "that box by the blah blah where they can't see you unless they come from the blargh" . The spots I'm talking about just don't come to mind. They arent' specific enough, like "in the ___ room".
I'm talking about any box, any corner, any little unused hallway, ANYWHERE that action doesn't occur 95% of the time. They don't expect you to be crouched behind that tiny little rock that they've never seen anyone camp behind, and you can't do it anyway because its too small isn't it? or can you? Oh well never seen anyone kill someone from there" rock.
BANG
Places that ARENT good are confined places where people are always getting ambushed from. Places that are good are just out of most lines of sight and hopefully will expose the enemy to you, unbeknownst to him. I know I'm saying what you obviously want to do, but I'm trying to describe how to do it.
Crouch and lean too. Oh but you already knew that.

Also, sometimes spots that seem completely out in the open are the best spots. For example in nightstalker or desert glory, just proning by the rocks in an open area will hide you most of the time.

a spot i always use atleast once or twice a game is in XROads at the terrorists spawn go left and just past all those pillarstheres those pots that people usually hide behind way in the corner well i go to the oppostite side in the corner near the fence.this works good because if they coime around the corner they always look behind the pots because thats were evryone hides.then i just pick them off with the 552sd u can also pick em off as theey run by or come throught the fish market doorway they never even no ware its comin from.plants mines too around for extra backup incase you miss
p.s please dont look for me in this spot i wont be there ;)

Another good example is the towers on Blood Lake. I'll go up in them no matter whether I'm Terrorist or Seal. It works every game because people just think that nobody uses them. Especially the left and right ones. Get up there with an SD and your golden. Just crouch and lean right until you see someone. This way your profile is low.
Anyway, theres so many countless good places to use. Just think about which way they will come from and then get behind something while you keep an eye out. The whole idea, though, is to get behind the walls, plants, boxes, etc, that aren't the usual, popular ones. Just like most of the game is repitition for you, try and break up the enemies repetition
Two more ok examples on Frostfire. The stacked boxes by the big entrance to the boxroom. Get on top and prone with an sd or a m60. Do the same at the yellow crane if you want. I probably wouldn't go up the crane but think about it.. maybe the situation would call for it - and its a lousy position, exactly why ppl dont look there or go there. Maybe you got the yellow jacket on. Who knows? Just do the unexpected, use unexpected spots, and make maximum kills your #1 priority.
