If your playing on a real hilly map like Foxhunt or Deathtrap, etc, it's a lot harder to get the crosshair to where you want it to go.. cuz you'd have to take aim and adjust for every guy.. but when its flat, you just get it at the right level and leave it there.

The problem with this is that you don't gain any skill. There are many instances where even on a flat map you are going to have to point your crosshairs in more directions then you can think of. Leaving it level teaches you nothing but how to play without using the right analog stick. Play with the M16 in all types of maps and learn to aim...thats how you get good.

Maybe playing with it on hilly maps and practicing WOULD get you better.. but theres no denying that it's easier on flat maps.. and I think no matter what skill level you are, awesome with the m16 - or using it for the first time... your still going to do better and get more kills on flat maps.
Also I don't know what you mean leaving it at head level teaches you nothing... Sure it doesn't teach you anything, but leaving it at headlevel sure will get you a bunch of headshots! I always try and leave my crosshairs at head level anyway, no matter what gun it is... and that works great for me..

I don't want to toot my own horn here but I don't think there is any difference between flat maps and hilly maps. I have been using the M16 like its my job for over a year and some months and find that if you encounter good players on flat maps, they are usually hiding up high on something or proned on the ground waiting for you to walk by. I'll admit that walking around with the crosshairs at head level will get you more kills but AL, I don't think you should preach it. It is a good tip but there are no tactics behind it. No tactics I say? The M16 has a little bit of kick to it if you get a good fire rate goin and if its at head level its going to miss more then it will hit. A good M16 user aims for the body. Its a big target and if the first bullet hits, the second and third will hit also.

I think disagreement is an essential part of discussion, so I'm glad your presenting another opinion. The great thing about Socom is theres no one way to do things. I present my opinions, but I can't say any of them is totally correct or a Socom rule, I can only say that it works for me. Aiming at the head works for me, with any gun. I always aim at heads, it's just my thing, and I know it works. I've got about 9000 kills and 4200 headshots, I rarely see people with more headshots. I think its easier to get one headshot than multiple bodyshots. I just think that getting headshots is easiest on flat maps.. with any gun..
I'm not saying don't look up and down and all around, but when your done looking, I think you should immediately bring your crosshairs down to a level where it will hit the guy where you want. In my instance, I try and get the crosshairs at head level. Maybe other players aim at the chest, it makes no difference and depends on your style and the gun your using.
Then when I'm using the M16, I just strafe across their head while I'm firing. Because of the lack of recoil, it's the same thing I do with HK5Ks if anyone has ever read that thread "AL GIORDINOS HK5K method". It's easiest to judge head level (or chest level) on flat maps.. and best with guns that have little/no recoil... then when a guy pops out on the edge of your vision or right in front of you, it should be lined up either way, and all you have to do is shoot... not re-aim.. just strafe across their head or chest while your firing.
On hilly maps, you just have to be constantly readjusting. It makes it a little harder, especially with the M16 because you have to tap R1 in a pattern while simultaneously readjust the crosshairs to where you want to go. If you and a enemy are battling and circling each other on the side of a hill, half the time he's above you and your trying to bring the crosshairs up! The other half of the time, he's below you, and your trying to bring them down! And at the same time, your trying to tap R1 in a pattern! It's a lot harder than being in a battle on a flat map, with the crosshairs already at the level you want, in my opinion, theres no denying.
Of course, just remember.... this is my opinion, and theres no right or wrong way. You might own me with the M16! Some of the people might agree with you, and some people might agree with me... it's up to players to figure out what works best for them, so it's great that we are getting some intelligent input.

You are right about alot of things in your statement but the one thing I want to address is that "There is no one way to do something in socom." However, the best players all do basically the same things. I was lucky enough to be in a clan for the longest time with some talented players and I absorbed just about every skill you could think of. Aiming at the head is one thing I have learned from people. I just want to make that clear that in general my habit is to aim for the head. If you count before the patch (I wrote down my final stats before so I could add them to what I have now) I would have racked up over 13,000 kills and about 6,000 headshots give or take a few. I am not trying to downplay the idea of aiming at the head but generally it can be a plan the backfires on you because it is indeed a small target (No duh right?) I find that if you have the firing rate down, go for the body. Also, when people have played the game a GOOD deal of time (If you add it up I am in like the 600 hour range ) alot of things become a force of habit. So like I said, practice, practice, practice. The only way to gain skill in anything is through experience. Get owned once in a while, I still do, but when I do get beaten fairly it makes me a better player. The same principle goes for gun usage. Just play...

Just to throw my two cents in... I aim for the upper chest/neck area and that itty bitty recoil of the M16 will allow the burst to tag a brother in his face. Although like AL said I aswell aim for the head, so im a switch-it-up-a-roo. But yes i would say both strategies work very well. I have had some cases where i was forced to fire a chest level in firefights and 1 or 1 and a half bursts of the 16 to the chest will drop a dude with full health.
In conclusion, i would have to say its all personal preference and whatever works best for you. I use both strategies in different situations.
Well those are my comments. Thanks!

Good post man and Welcom to Socom3.com! Keep up the good posting! I think you made valid points and I agree with what you say to varying degrees depending on the idea you threw out there. Like I said, keep posting like that and it should keep you from being disliked by the Mod Squad.

well, always have your caracter in the "stand" position, then i would say try to keep your gun at head level, becuase this gun has little very little recoil. and rember if your enemey is running to the side and you guys are battling always lead his body never aim directly at him, rather aim a slightly infront of him that way he runs into your bullets. Once you get good with the gun, it will take maximum 3 burst to drops someone. I am slowly getting all my clan members to switch to the M16 to inprov e our play. :o
