Well theres a bunch of things I want to comment on since I haven't had a chance to be here in a few days.
First off, don't say that you can't get headshots with the machine guns. If you can't get headshots with them, you'll suck with them, so of course you'll think the machine guns suck. However, it's easy to get headshots with them! I'll get 10 kills with 8 of them being headshots, probably more than any other gun I use including the M4A1sd which I'm surgical with when headshots are concerned. Learn how to fire at head level and you'll see what I mean.. Also the machine guns aren't stealth guns.. your goal when using them shouldn't be to survive, or to camp, or to provide cover, your goal should be to rush and mow down as many enemies as possible before you die.. That's what I do.. 1 kill I'm satisfied... 2 kills I'm happy.... 3 I'm real happy... and 4, my job is done. (Then again I'm ALWAYS rushing straight until I die, the only thing that changes the style I do that in is the gun) Imagine your fear when you see the two guys who spawned next to you are already dead, their names are fading away, and now that crazy mofo with the machine gun is almost upon you!
Second Shapz said the M60 is more accurate and powerful than the M63 and I don think thats correct.. I think the reason they gave the M63 25 less bullets is because it's slightly more powerful and more accurate, although slightly slower than the M60.
Also yes if you jump into a group of guys you'll probably be dead very fast, but not always. The same thing can be said of rushing, but if you do it right, you'll pwn. With normal guns, if you jump into a group of several guys, your probably dead because you'll run out of ammo in just a second or two. However with the machine guns, they give you a better chance than any other gun at surviving this situation. All you do is keep the gun aimed at HEAD LEVEL while holding the trigger down, and move in all different directions so they can't hit you, while simulatenously your trying to aim at the guys head. The great thing about Socom is your guy can move all over the place but you can aim wherever you want at the exact same time your guy is moving.. If you don't know how to do this, I suggest you get some practice in. This technique works GREAT if you have a couple of guys lined up and you just pop pop them in their head. Worst case scenario should be you died while causing a huge distraction and hopefully killing at least 1 guys. It's not bad if you die surrounded by a group of enemies, because if your team has any skills there will soon be a nade landing next to your fading name.. Plus if you jump into 3 guys, sooner or later they will all need to reload, if your still alive this is your chance to really take that extra second to mow down their heads.
Sometimes you'll know theres 2-3 guys waiting for you around a corner. Start firing right before you reach the corner, THEN move around the corner with gun blasting at head level! If your lucky, you can get ALL of them before they can even react, if not, you should be able to at least get 1-2 and have a good chance dispatching the third in close combat. If you don't get him off the bat, just dance and dodge around until the other guy has to reload (meanwhile your firing the whole time so he's scared and definately not aiming very accurate) and then when he reloads, take an extra second to move in and aim it on his head.
Anyway if anyone is having trouble.. read up on how I get headshots and then practice it. I'm not bragging but it's a fact I have a better kill to headshot ratio % than anyone else whose stats I've looked at. (7200 kills now and about 3500 headshots and all I do is rush) And I do it in a very simple way, keeping my gun aimed straight ahead (when the terrain is flat). You don't know how much a difference this makes. It helps when coming around a corner, theres a guy waiting you didn't expect, and you have a split second to react and pull the trigger for one or two bullets.. have it on head level and it will save your arse. A guy is shooting behind you? Spin around with gun firing right in his face. A guy pops out and blasts you? Pull the trigger and put two bullets into his head in the split second before you die. Not only will it allow you to get more kills it WILL save you all the time, help your team, and help you win more. The machines specifically have very little recoil, so it's especially easy to blast them in the face. Don't be afraid to run around with that trigger held down.
One last thing is that these guns aren't accurate very far, so if you can, stick to cover and smaller enclosed areas.. big open fields and you won't get very far.. but try playing Frostfire and rushing the tunnels with trigger held down...
