The M14 is a very good weapon. You don't need to hold your R1, you need to control your crosshairs. That's that i always do, once you mastered the M14, you'll be very good :D.
m14 tips...
1.Find enemy
2.put enemy in crosshairs
3.hit r1 in short controlled bursts (4-5 bullets)
4.they WILL go down if you have them in your crosshairs
5.When people ***** about it bein a "noob cannon" dont listen to em just use the gun you want to use
I put this tip in my advanced techniques sticky but I really don't think you guys should be bursting with the M14 unless your just learning how to use it. Once you know how the recoil reacts you should learn how to hold the trigger down and still keep your crosshairs as steady as possible. All you gotta do is get 3 or 4 of those 20 bullets to go in their body. If your burst burst bursting you run the risk of not shooting enough bullets and getting mowed down by your enemy who is holding down the trigger. This is how I got really good with Terrorists.. I used to hate playing them.. I used to be OK with the M14 but it was cause I actually followed everyones advice and fired burst burst burst. Now I just hold that trigger down and I keep my crosshairs controlled and going where I want em. I mastered the recoil not just learned it. And I pwn. I'm tellin you this gun rocks once you know how to control it. It's 1 clip 1 kill. Try it tonight.
It's hard to explain but you just learn how to slowly push the trigger down incrementally as the recoil increases - thus counteracting it.
