Usually when I snipe I always use a thermal scope whenever I can except for the cold levels seeing as the thermal scope wouldn't work as well obviously. And when, for example, I snipe on vigalance I always hide behind things and look for people in 3rd person view. Once I find them I usually look for them by leaning out and then I attempt to kill them. But that's just how I do it.

I think its very important for a sniper to be versatile. What I mean by this is a sniper has to be constantly changing. Every round a sniper needs to change spots. On some maps though, you're spawn might limit you to some sniper spots that are too far out of reach. For example, in Blizzard SEALS if you spawn all the way on the left, it'll be hard to go snipe on the right of the SEAL mountain. I like to have a three spot rotation when I'm sniping. Also, if I get into a spot and for about 40-45 secs I get no action, I try to change spots to where the action is. Exceptions are maps like terr breach, when the seals need to breach I'll wait in a good spot all day.

To be a good sniper (in my opinion), you have to be very good in picking your spot. This, to me, is about 60% of sniping. The rest is aim and ability to relocate, aswell as pistol skill. I like to snipe from odd spots in maps( i.e leaning out of the ruins in Foxhunt) Just my two cents

Whenever i play i am almost always a sniper, some things ive found:

Change guns for different maps/situations.
-big map -mainly use a larger caliber/more accurate gun
--other team rushes: use smaller gun w/ higher fire rate [sr25/sasr]
(so if one pops up you don't have to switch to handgun)
--your team rushes: use a accurate gun to hit people your team misses

-small maps -mainly use a gun w/ higher fire rate
--if you have a spot that can see a good deal of the map, switch to a
larger gun
--if someone pops up when you are moving & you have sasr/sr25 DONT
switch to your pistol, just use the rifle (more power, already out)

If a teammate dies & you have a clear line of sight where they died
zoom in to that spot, most of the time the enemy runs past the body

If there are many targets, zoom in & out when ever one dissapears/appears, so you aren't caught in zoom

sniping from the hip (when moving) can save you, when someone is close

Thats a short lis of what ive learned/seen while playing

Auto Aim?

Is there such thing as auto aim? Some people in a room i was playing in said that this one guy was using auto aim because he kept getting head shots. I told them he was probally just a good shot, but they insisted that he had some sort of auto aim.

When sniping in SOCOM 2 its not like real life. So don't be petrified of taking a shot. Also forget the concept of "good spots" if get habitual about a spot they will be waiting for you. Also, try using the M40A1 if you are having trouble holding still, it takes two shots, but steady as a rock.I would be willing to give someone a walkthrough on SOCOM 2. Send me a message in any way below. vv

Good practice is to play sniper boundaries. I always love to run'n'gun with the M87LER. I don't bother using my pistol ever and yesterday i got 18 kills without scope just run'n'gun. If you want to do that however which i advise is a very useful skill considering they drop with one hit. I look it as a slightly stonger Desert Eagle with good accuracy just longer reload. Play snipers only rooms with out boundaries to get good at run'n'gun and frostfire is the best map for this.(make the rules so only M40A1, M82A1, and M87LER) When you are running and gunning with sniper rifle be sure to be good at diving and gettin up to the point where you dont actually lay on the ground and takes you a while to get up. Diving also is a great way to avoi snipers, jumping just saves your feets and all good snipers go for the chest. The same applies to run'n'gun only jump when your next to him and jump behind him because its a great way to get your enemies back turned to you.

I do not agree with Dino about the run-n-gun. I can do it well, but I do not consider it actual sniping mainly because you wouldn't do that in a regular medley, but that's off-topic.

In a medley your best chance is the M82. It's more steady than the M87 and more powerful.

As for hiding, I suggest you take into account your camoflauge, since that's wht'll help you the best. SEALs usually have good camo for the map which makes sniping easier, but there are areas where a terrorist blends in quite well. Have your friend look at you and see if it's easy to notice you. Also, though you may not blend in well as a terrorist, plant PMN mines around you. You probably won't kill anyone, but you'll hear them blow up and know when someone is around you.

As stressed earlier, call someone out. If someone is on the headset at the moment, and you have a keyboard use it. Calling the person out can seriously save you.

Roofs are officially a "no-no." That's the number one expected place to have a sniper. Find a bush on the side of the road or something.

If your entire team is sniping set up a forward defensive wall and just peck each person off as they cross a line, but that rarely works since there is always at least one sniper on the other team .

I won't give out all my secrets because I prefer to keep getting kills, but I'll give you these basics.
