I wouldn't be surprised at all if their profit margin was greatest on that particular tv and they had fiddled the settings on the others to make them less impressive, guiding you to their promised land.

I never buy extended warranties on anything, ever. Reason being that if a piece of technology is going to fail, the rule of thumb is generally that it's either going to fail as soon as you pull it out of the box, or very soon after - when it's still in standard warranty, or way into the future when it's just naturally coming to the end of its useful life and is out of the extended warranty anyway.

But this time i decided to go with the warranty and the buy back program they have and in return I received 2 pairs of sharp 3d glasses valued at 200. The warranty was 270 and the buy back was another charge (i think) lol..

    Original price- 2300
    walked out paying- 2910.

So was I a sucker or did I make the right move by adding 2 years to my warranty?

Thats the tv if any one was interested.

You are a sucker, unless you end up using the warranty. Its basically a gamble. I guess with the amount of money you paid for, it made some sense...

Seriously, before two years comes around, make sure you fully inspect that TV and take it in for ANYTHING that is wrong with it. If you got an extra pair of glasses, that is at least something, but usually there is a manufacturer warranty for those types of tvs, and I think you can extend the warranty as long as its within the manufacturer one. So not sure. Is it two years beyond the manufacturer warranty?

you could buy a decent project for $500-$1000 ...and all you need is a wall! warranties are ok...but for some electronics nowadays...when things break the parts are obsolete anyway. so sorry dude...but suckered.

Can I just point out the actual age of this thread, from I think the middle of 2011.

Paying around $250 for a warranty on a $2000+ TV in 2011 might not seem so stupid back then despite what I may have posted earlier in this thread. The huge drop in the prices of 3D TVs since, at least here in the UK, means they cost the same or just a little more than a normal LCD TV. By today's standards (two years later), knowing we can get a new one for the price they now are, he didn't make a mistake, he just covered his arse knowing he could be left with a 60inch flat panel of nothing but wires if anything had gone wrong.

I've never bought a warranty for anything because if they're going to die I feel they'll probably do so within the original warranty period of one year. I've taken insurance out on my iPhones and watch that I wear for work purely to get the money back if they're damaged or lost (highly likely), not because I'm worried they'll be defective. The iPhone insurance is fairly reasonable when thinking about replacing the phone out of my own pocket; two years of insurance is 288 (12 monthly) vs a new iPhone being upwards of around 400.
