8mm video Question.

My Dad just asked me to surf the web to find something that can re-record all of our 8mm tapes onto a DVD player. He said or VHS (but we rather DVD)

I tried searching Google and all I came up with was this.
GVD200 Sony GV-D200 Digital-8 Video Walkman VCR

Does any one know what I'm talking about and knows a cheaper product? Cause that much money to save our families past memories may not be worth it LOL. But that was all I could find. Any help finding a cheaper product will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You want to look for someone (a business) that will do this for you. It'll have an associated cost, but will be way more convenient.

There's someone local to me that does this, and a quick google found this: Film And Video Transfer- 8mm Film and 16mm Film Transfer - Home Movie Depot

We have A LOT of tapes I guess it all comes down to seeing how much the cost a place doing it will be compared to the thing I put up cause we can always sell it after. I just honestly never expected to see the price being that high. While I was waiting for a reply I found a place that charges by the foot/quality.

I will tell me dad about the place I think that your idea is better then his. Cause they can restore it and make it look nice. I gotta see what he wants I was just sitting here and got a text saying buy one for me lol.

Well, you also have to weigh how much time you want to put into this. To buy the hardware and manually do it yourself is gonna take some serious time, depending on how many reels you've got.

Service = send it away, wait a couple of weeks, get some nice DVDs in the mail.

Video Conversion from 8mm Super8 and 16mm Film to DVD Video - Video Conversion Experts - Chandler, AZ
That place puts them on blu ray wow. But yea that is true I rather send it out cause I know what will happen. My dad buys the thing and make me figure it out.

I just think he is nervous about sending them out and them getting lost, when my mom moved away she took all the pictures we kept all the videos. So I think it means a lot to him. (I'm like 95% sure)

Answer this question for me: do you have the camera you used to record and the cables to hook it into a tv?

No and we actually just thought of this and I was coming on here to ask if that would work to play it then record at the same time.

My dad told me to search for a 8mm camera on ebay.

If you can get a camera, all you need to do is get the cables with it that you use to hook it into the tv. Instead of hooking it into the tv hook it into a dvd recorder and hit record and viola you have your home movies on dvd. Quite simple really.
