I actually don't like the new iPods, and coming from someone who has personally owned three of them, that's sort of odd. I think it's great they are upgrading the amount of memory for the same price, but for me they took a step back by going to the rounded front again, instead of the glossy flat one they have on the previous generation. I also think the nano looks like a little runt and I laughed when I saw it.
I will give some credit for the iPod touch, though, or even the iPhone if they give it a lot of space. Next time I am in need of some change it will be to the touch. I will be waiting probably for the second generation of touches, though, since I need more space and don't want to pay for a new one now anyways.

This sucks, because my ipod is seeing the last of it's days. I'm gonna have to find an old one on ebay or something...
In any case, what the hell were they thinking with the nano? People bought it because it was super small and still had a screen to browse around when you're looking for your music; it was basically the best parts of the shuffle and video combined. Now it's just thin, but wide as hell. My friend says that it looks more like a mini than a nano, and i'd have to agree with him. Not everyone wants video playback....
And where the hell did the white ipod go? The new silver is gay, but not as bad as the black.
And i have to agree with not liking the rounded edges.....
Well, guess i'm S.O.L. till next generation.

I think the iPhone is neat and trendy, but I'm betting that the honeymoon is short. If you crack it open and start using it, you'll no doubt love it for a few weeks, and then you'll definitely start finding things about it that you don't like.
If you have a lot of music that you want to cart around with you, I'd probably go for the classic. If you want the sexiness of the iPhone, storage of a nano, and wifi browsing, go with the touch.

Man, I'm so weak, I opened that **** up. I couldn't resist. Feature for feature it's not all that better compared to my Palm Treo 680 (which I've already sold for $100, not that bad!)... but I still love the interface and the screen. It's a real beauty.
The whole space issue is not that big of a deal for me, really. I have over 80GB of music on my external hard drive, but I could never fathom a situation where I'd actually be listening to everything I own. I kind of enjoy the idea of renewing my music every so often-- something I'm used to doing anyway with my 3rd Gen iPod with 15 GB. So otherwise, it's like having the iPod Touch with the added bonus of a phone, to me.
All that being said, I think I'll punch a Mac Genius in the face if they release a new version by December and tell them to pass it on to Steve Jobs.

Well I am stuck between a rock and an iPod here.
A 90 minute bus journey to college and my dinner hour prove to be too boring for PSM3 so I am in the market for a new MP3/4 player.
Problem is, the Zune isn't really available in the UK without having to import one (resulting in custom charges) and it takes 3 minutes just to transfer 1 song to the damn thing. I dont even want to know how long it takes to put a film on it!
So, I either import a Zune and sit 3 days while transferring all 21 songs on my computer and ~40 episodes of Prison Break plus about 3 films, or I give in and get an 80GB iPod classic and have done with it.
Those keeping tack will note I mostly talk crap about something before buying it, this is no exception.
Does anyone know of any other MP3/4 players that can do pretty much the same as an iPod? Im not too worried about memory size so long as it can fit my Prison Break and a few films. I dont really listen to music so I am trying to avoid the iPod due to the fact its music orientated. I am willing to buy an iPod Classic once I get the cash (need a job first) but I want to leave myself open to other products.

I want something that I can just slip into my pocket while I am sat in college wondering why I am doing the same work I did 4 years ago in school.
My Mum has an Archos. They are really nice, but not what Im looking for.
Thanks for the help Ome6a but I think they are too big. (Soon you will see me saying "it's too small" in this thread, I can pretty much guarentee it)

No problem. I was going with the whole "in college, commuting, watching videos mostly" mindset, and the Archos is what I instantly thought of.
I agree it's on the hefty side, even though it's packing a 7" touch-screen (I forget, did you get the touchscreen on your laptop? I've found mine to be really grainy).
Is there much issue with you getting products from the Korean or Chinese market in the UK (different power sources, etc)? I constantly see great looking personal media players posted on Gizmodo.com from those markets, that we never get in the US. You may want to check into that.
The latest Creative Zen model may interest you. It's small and has got the same 2.5" screen as the iPod, but it supports 16.7 million colors while the iPod's is somewhere around 200k (I think). It only comes in 4,8, and 16GB flavors though.
Edit:
Or you could hold out for what might be the announcement of the iPhone in the UK next week.
