Laptop choices

I was going to post this in the polls section, but I am doing it here so random noobs don't just vote for the sake of it.

After weeks of thinking about it, I should be ordering myself a new laptop within the next few weeks. I don't really want to spend more than $750 (before shipping/tax) because tax and crap makes it way overpriced.

All I need is you (anyone who knows what they are talking about) to read through the specs, and decide which is the best option.

Please note I do know what I am talking about with computers and the only reason I am doing this is because I want everything but know I cant.

The laptop will be used for intensive web design, and the reagular stuff like IMing, downloading, burning DVD's, etc.

HELP!

Option 1

HP 6000Z Series:

- Screen: 15.4inch Brightview Widescreen
- OS: Vista Premium
- Processor: Mobile AMD Sempron(TM) 3500+ (1.80GHz/512KB)
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 6150
- RAM: 2GB
- Hard Drive: 120GB (Not worried about this actually)
- CD/DVD: 8x DVD Burner (The rest dont worry about)
- Other: Built in wireless W/LAN, 6-cell battery.

Price: $791 including shipping and tax)

Option 2

HP 6000T Series:

- Screen: 15.4inch Brightview Widescreen
- OS: Vista Premium
- Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) M 430 (1.73 GHz/1MB L2 Cache)
- Graphics Card: Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950 - Celeron
- RAM: 1GB
- Hard Drive: 120GB (Not worried about this actually)
- CD/DVD: Lightscribe (Pointless but nice to have)
- Other: Built in wireless W/LAN, high capacity 6-cell battery.

Price: $790 including shipping and tax.

I might add another few options later or change the current ones. Just tell me which I should go with, and I will take that into concideration.

Provide reasoning or alternatives.

Thanks.

first one. more ram and more ghz in the processor. then again, what do you plan on doing with this laptop?

or, just wait a little more time, and buy a much better laptop.

Option #1 looks like a pretty solid laptop to me as well -- especially for the price. Well done, bargain hunter. I prefer the Nvidia GFX rather than Intel's, but how many MB?

Not less than a hour ago I finally went and purchased my MacBook Pro off BestBuy. It totaled close to $3 grand after taxes and the warranty. I gave up waiting for the new release after Apple announced today that they are pushing back the release until October. Now I feel like I waited all this time for nothing, but I will definitely make valuable use of it when I am traveling all around this summer. Maybe I'll upgrade once October comes around... whatever... I can't wait to get it now!

Option one looks like a fantastic deal. And if you're going to be doing a lot of web designing on it, I suggest a small travel mouse to make life easier.

I myself just got a laptop a couple weeks back (my parents gave me my graduation gift early =D). It has Vista Home Premium and I'm rather happy with it. Obviously a few things that can be tweaked, but still, nice.

Option one.

Simply because Sempron > Celeron.

If I had to choose between these two different laptops, I'd pick the first one. There's just more bang for the buck.

I recall you saying you had big hands? Laptop keyboards are a freaken nightmare to use heavily in that case. Just something to consider.

I personally prefer a good desktop over a laptop, and only use a laptop for the basics when I travel.

As everybody else is saying, option #1. It has a better processor. And since your number one reason is for wed design you need a good graphics card. That intel is the biggest piece of crap, its the same as having an integrated graphics card on a desktop.

I dont have big hands, I said some people do. I type on 3 different keyboards everyday so I am used to having to get to "know" a new keyboard.

Thanks a lot for the feedback everyone.

I know the GHZ in the processor is more in the first one, but the cahce is larger in the second. I am hoping that the extra 1GB of RAM in the first one will make up for the processor and video card being crappy.

I was leaning to the first one myself, but I wanted to give myself other options.

I had the same AMD processor in my computer and it was absolute crap, but like I said, hopefully the RAM will make up for it.

The reason I want 2GB RAM is because of Vista:

- Reccomended RAM for Vista is 1GB
- Stuff I will be doing will need 1GB

= Vista takes 1GB, other crap takes the other.

Obviously it doesn't work like that, but its an easy way of putting it. I forgot to mention I will be gaming on it, but 2GB is more than enough for most games today.

I could easily knock over $100 off both prices, but I want the stuff in it.

Thanks again everyone, more feedback will still be appreciated though for anyone who has their 2 cents to add.

PS: I already have one of those mice you hold in your hand, Irish. It's basically a small (handheld) trackball. Not really practical for anything more that the web, but I have one none the less. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Really, if you can get these computers upgraded to the next processor in line, then go ahead. The Sempron and the Celeron are decent, but I feel that they will be out dates here rather soon. I believe the Sempron is only a 32 bit processor, or the one I have in my laptop is, and I am thinking of upgrading due to the fact that 32 bit will no longer be able to handle games and software. Most of the new software will only run on the 64 bit.

And I do know this, I work at Circuit City. They MAKE us learn this stuff.

Get a Macbook. Read the reviews about it. A review in PC World said it was the best they'd ever used.
