PS2 Online Connection Problem

I can get on and everything, but in Madden and Socom it says I have two bars out of three for my ping. It's terrible lag in socom and I don't like being lagger. In Madden I get booted all the time. My setup is a wireless adaptor for my connection. The base unit of the wireless connector is connected by an ethernet cord to my router. The secondary unit is connected with an ethernet cord to the back of my PS2. It always used to be three bar for my ping but it just all of a sudden started doing this. My guess is that there is a damaged ethernet cord in one of the units. But I could really use help because if I don't fix it I can't play online because I don't wanna get DC'd in Madden or be laggy in Socom...

It could be your internet provider, cause when it's peak hours for me my Mic on Socom doesn't even work for me + I get some pretty bad lag to go along too. Also it could mean that someone else is using your wireless connection. If you even have a WEP key you could be at risk

First of all, having a WEP key is not a sufficient measure against misusage of your wireless, since WEP is a challenge response mechanism one could snif the challenge and response and calculate the key (5 minutes max.). Getting WEP to a some what secure solution requires:
- to NOT broadcast your SSID
- to block any other MAC then yours
- prevent rocque access-points (cause, how do you know you are really talking to your own access-point, and not to the access point of a hacker using your SSID?

That said, if you would download via someone else´s wireless Internet connection, not only they could see what you are downloading but in fact everybody with the above knowledge and the skills to use them could view what you are downloading (worse, they could be the man-in-the-middle without you noticing it). I would not use a wireless connection with just WEP protection to connect to the Internet at all
