Ubuntu with the avant dock, full compiz fusion effects, and some window opacity sexiness (just do alt + scroll to change opacity)

It's probably some compiz setting you didn't enable.
And yeah, there is a new build: 8.04 LTS "Hardy Heron"
It's very similar to 7.10 and 7.04, but it seems faster, and firefox=sex on it.
