It's awesome, yet complicated.

Tbh it's not all it's cracked up to be in my opinion. There's like a thousand programs to replace windows applications, but most of them aren't as good as the windows version. The desktop and other effects are friggin awesome too look at though. Also, there's this thing called wine that essentially acts as a virtual machine or emulator for your windows applications, so you can have things like notepad++ work on it. Personally, I would never have it as my only operating system (even if I wasn't a gamer), but I'm fine with dual booting it. Also, it isn't as stable as I thought it was going to be, it actually crashed a few times (not a complete system crash, but it did lock up a few times). Yeah, it crashes about as much as XP for me.

And if you do get it, never ever do what they tell you to in the readmes of a downloaded program. do an apt-get instead of a ./configure. That's where I effed up on my first install of ubuntu.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents on ubuntu.

Im fine with it as my only OS, though it does get frustrating at times. Mind you, when I installed this, I have never worked with linux before so it basically kicked me in the **** and said "look here *****, I AM NOT windows, so don't **** with me"...but, I've managed to learn the basics and can do some simple stuff. For example the other day I changed my system name, not knowing that doing this totally deleted my old usernames directory, and I manged to fix it by logging into root and creating a new user via the failsafe terminal. It was hard until I started to do it. Even though it was a very simple process, I was pretty proud of myself. lmao

But yeah, sorry for the long story. All in all, I like Ubuntu, though it could be better.

Yeah, for all it's flaws, ubuntu is a pretty decent operating system. I also love the built in functionalities it includes, like gparted. Gparted is basically better than any of the 40 dollar and up programs to repartition a drive if you want to run the program through windows. Soo much better than the standard windows one, which doesn't even let you resize partitions.
