Ok, i jsut downloaded sum ROMS for this SNES emulator that i hav. 3 of them are Final Fantasy 2, 3, and 5. Im just wondering...

does it matter if i dont play them in order? I care about the story lines and im just wondering if i need to play through 2 before i play 3, etc.

also, in your own opinion, which is the overall best of the 3?

Isn't it true that FF games are not regarded as sequels? Or did I make that up? Like each one is a whole new cast and storyline? I thought I remembered hearing that somewhere.

The only Final Fantasy stories that are directly connected are Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. At least these are the only ones that I know of. I haven't played either. I wish I would have played Final Fantasy X.

The new FF7 sequels are also obviously related to FF7. But when it comes to any of the older entries, none of those are related to anything.

becuse of the graphics and battle systems, i would suggest going in order. Becuse if your playing these games for the first time it might be hard to play 6 and then go and play 2 and etc. ya kno?

I agree with the above poster. While the storylines are completely different, I would just go in order. There won't be any spoilers or need to know items per game for the other games

The only Final Fantasy games that have sequels are:

FFVII
FFVII Dirge of Cerberus
FFVII Advent Children
FFVII Crisis Core

FFX
FFX-II

FFXII
FFXII Revenant Wings

I think I covered all of them.

To answer your question directly, it does not matter what order you play them in, as they have individual stories apart from any other game in the franchise. If you've ever played a turn-based RPG, you can handle any of these in any order. If this is not the case, then you might want to start with Final Fantasy II/IV or III/VI, as Final Fantasy V may prove to be slightly more difficult.

In my opinion, Final Fantasy III/VI is the overall best of those which you have. If Final Fantasy V did not have a somewhat cheap storyline, it would easily be the best among them. While Final Fantasy II does have a great story, Final Fantasy III has better gameplay and story elements, and the characters are much more memorable, in my opinion.
