Impossible. He's going to have to win at least 3 more Super Bowls and a couple more League MVP's. Until he does that, Tom Brady will be the (future) best quarterback in history.

The only thing about the Super Bowls is that a championship depends on SO much more than how good the quarterback is. There are so many variables in winning a Super Bowl, and the quarterback is only a very small portion of that. If you base it on Super Bowls, then you could say that Trent Dilfer was better than Dan Marino, because Dilfer won a Super Bowl with the Buccanneers, and Marino never won one. Don't get me wrong, Brady is incredible. But Manning is a scientist of football. I don't think there's ever been a quarterback with as much football intelligence as Manning. The Colts could probably get by without an offensive coordinator, just letting Manning do it himself. But they all have a long way to go to catch up with Favre's records.

A sign of respect maybe? A marketing ploy?

Personally I'd say the idea started from the former, and came to fruition by the latter.
