For me

Good

Very realistic for a video game
Weekly roster updates
Great detail graphics wise
Playable out of the box with default sliders
User uploaded sliders
Create A Player is extremely detailed, much like the WWE SmackDown series Create A Wrester

Not so good

Apparently some stats bugs, but I haven't seen them
Fielders are WAY too fast on default sliders, making gap hits tough
Limited in terms of editing players
Meter pitching is pretty easy unless you mess around with the sliders
I've heard online play is pretty laggy, making it tough to hit and pitch.

I've had a tough time turning the PS3 off because of this game.

This isn't too much of a dealbreaker for me, as I've felt that almost all online baseball games are laggy.

<sigh> I guess I will have to give it a rent, just to see for myself... but thanks for the info, regardless.

I had absolutely no luck getting a copy from any of the local rental places both today and yesterday... perhaps I'll just use the $50 giftcard I got at Best Buy for Christmas and pick it up tomorrow, and buy it outright.

Still not 100% certain, though...

Got my hands on a copy this afternoon on my way home, and I must say that I am very impressed with it, so far. As a matter of fact, I am currently winning my game against the Cubs (accidentally picked wrong team)... all things considered, this game seems pretty legit.

LMAO... the Wrigley Field public announcer just made a lengthy one in regards to the commemorative bricks that you can get dedicated around the ballpark. My parents just got me one of these for Christmas this past year... effin sweet!

They also just announced a funnier one about a Wrigley Field restroom attendant that is retiring after 50 years... dude, sweet.

You guys also failed to mention to me that this game plays more like the old school EA Sports MLB games from back in the day... which is a bonus, in my book.

Another plus to this game is the fact that rumble actually works!!! Sexy time.

Won my first game, Marlins (me, by accident) at Cubs (AI), score was 4-1.

This game really is top notch... the presentation, the way it plays... reminds me so much of the old school PS2 EA Sports baseball games. And I'm talking about when those EA Sports games were GOOD. Not mediocre.

DOUBLE EDIT:

Are you effin kidding me? There's a "Sweep the Leg, Johnny" song in the game? Off the hook. I'm in love.

OK so i brought back MLB 2K8 after less than 2 days and it just so happens to be the worst baseball game ever created. i was very skeptical about spending another 60 on MLB "The Show" especially since it doesnt say its headset compatible on the back of the case but to my surprise during the middle of the first inning the mics turn on and you can talk to your opponent. now as far as the game play and graphics to my surprise was unbelievable. the game is pretty easy to play and online the game runs very smooth and has lots of different features. offline the road to the show and franchise modes are pretty f-in great also. serious not only is this better than 2K8 but its possibly one of the top 3 baseball games ever created.

Yeah I was going to wait until the 31st when the final rosters were out, however I couldn't wait to start a franchise with the Reds. I'm already in June, record is right around 42-20 or so. I'm in first, 3 games ahead of the astros right now. I guess I could just start over on the 31st, but I think i've played to much already for that. Maybe screw around with the red sox or yankee's until then..hm,mm.

Irish, a questions regarding the minor league rosters at operations sports, how do you go about getting those? DO you have to mail in some sort of memory stick or something, they put them on, and then they mail it back to you or what?

No. You just have to register at the forums, download the files to your flash drive or whatever you're using, plug it into your PS3 and copy the files to your HDD. Then when you start up the game, load the rosters and there you have Jay Bruce and Johnny Cuento (along with all the other minor leaguers that don't have MLB experience). The guys doing them said they should be ready for download on Opening Day.

Oh ok thats cool, I know psxsports used to make you mail in your memory card, and they'd have all of the NCAA rosters with the names, thats how I used to do it. Thats sweet though, I'll def. have to do that.

I'm still questioning whether or not I should start over when the final rosters are out on opening day

I just think it's effin aqwesome that they update the rosters just about every week... I'm just wondering how long it will take them to get Kosuke Fukudome on the Cubs' active roster.

Aside from that omission on their roster, I absolutely love this game.
