I like the game but games like this make me mad. I know that idea of losing your car in a street race is more realistic, but it's just something that would make me mad.

Gives you more incentive to win and try harder though doesn't it?

That is VERY true, but still think of building a car for months, not wanting to race it, and then a friend convinces you to race cause he doesn't think you can lose. You race some kid, you lose and you lose that car you worked on for months.
