Running backs are wearing out faster than ever in the NFL. Look at what happened to Marshal Faulk. He went down, and I think if he could've had a decent back up with him, he would've stayed healthier longer.
You're seeing a lot of systems in the NFL adopt this two tier back combo into thier offensive schemes to help avoid this problem. Look at Jacksonville. They are great with thier two backs splitting carries. It's a one, two punch combo that really helps teams out these days. It also cuts down on injuries for such an important position. By having two awesome running backs, you'll be more prepared should one go down, as well as have a great way to run down the defense of other teams, a lot quicker.
Willie Parker will be your quickster, and Mendenhall will be your bruiser. I can't wait to see how Pittsburg plays next year with both of them.
