Just look at the picture from 10 years ago. Yes, he did bulk up, but give me 10 years to bulk up and I could be double the size he is now.

The stronger your arms are, the more power you have to swing a bat. This, with the weight of the bat, gives the bat more momentum, thus when connected with a baseball at the precise point, the baseball will travel further, more so than a person with less strength in the arms.
The stronger your leg muscles are, the more you can propel yourself, in this instance with the pushoff for the steal. Even so, the stronger your legs are the faster you can run, with more push every stride.
The above is also useful when it comes to playing defense. Since I know Bonds has to play defense, because the Giants are a NL team, running faster is ideal in making great catches.
Leg strength is also great for making those home-run saving catches. The stronger your legs are, the more push you can get, thus propelling you higher into the air.
The added arm strength also will allow you to throw the ball from the outfield farther than what you normally can. Having a better chance to throw out a player.
Was that good enough for you???
The fact remains, I can't deny Bonds. His swing is damn near perfect, I cannot deny that. However, as I stated before, I strongly feel that Barry Bonds did indeed use performance enhancing drugs, and in turn is gave him the boost he needed to hit as many home runs as it did. IN addition, as it was mentioned above, these drugs will also allow you to heal from the everyday wear and tear.
Being an avid highschool baseball player, that being stronger is a great advantage in hitting and fielding. When I was a freshman, I wasn't as strong as I am today. Working in the off-season and enrolling in advance-conditioning classes, I became much stronger.
I more than doubled my homeruns and was able to have a better fielding percentage due to a better jump to dive for the linedrives and bounces that came my third base way. I was also able to make better throws from the outfield when I was needed to play out there.
