Yeah...DP set a franchise record with that save total.

The Rangers won another big game against the Islander last night, 2-1. There was no overtime or shootout in this one, although the islanders almost had a potential goal with less than a minute to go. The referees reviewed it for a couple of minutes, and came to the conclusion that the puck did not entirely cross the line.
Chris Simon deserves to be forever suspended from hockey...Avery of the Rangers had checked Simon along the side boards during the third period, and knocked Simon down. The hit was a clean hit, nothing more. Simon got back up, and just then Avery turned around, only to meet Simon's stick in his neck....You should of seen the replay, it was unbelievable. Simon got up, you could see the rage in his eyes, and he just put two hands on his stick, and swung it at Avery, as if he was trying to decapitate him. There is no room for players like Simon, and he should be gone from hockey a long time. Avery is really fortunate that he did not walk away with a serious injury..I'm trying to find a video of it, but so far I'm unsuccessful. If anyone can find it post it up!

YouTube - Chris Simon Cheapshot
He could have killed him, that hit him right in his throat, That was uncalled for and players like that should be banned from any organized sports.

Thanks for finding the video clip.
I seriously think the police should be involved with something like this. I mean if anyone did that to someone on the street, they would be arrested on the spot, but because Chris Simon is playing in a professional league, its all-right? Doesn't make sense to me, and he should be gone from hockey for at least a season or two, if not more.

What about Hockey Players that fight Legit in Hockey, if we did that in the street we'd go to jail, unfortunatly.
As disgusting and cheap and that shot was, The Police shouldn't be involved.I want this guy to be punished severly and more than the 45 Games they're speculating. No Punishment hurts worse than Punishments of inconveinience and Punishments involving large amounts of Money.
He should be suspended a whole season if not banned. When and If Simon comes back he should be forced to undergo an hour of anger management before every game. He should also be fined out the Arse.
he disrespected the game by using his stick like that, he should of just threw down his gloves and raised his dukes, if it meant so much to him.
If Avery was paralyzed or killed ( God Forbid ) obviously it becomes a Police and State matter. Gary Bettman needs to make a serious example out of Simon. If I was Bettman if he did come back, I'd inconveinence him with so much anger crap that he'd rather just quit the League and coach T-Ball.

ESPN.com - NHL - Simon suspended indefinitely for hit
Quote:
Simon suspended for hitting player with stick
Associated Press
UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- New York Islanders forward Chris Simon was suspended indefinitely by the NHL on Friday for his stick-swinging hit to the face of Rangers center Ryan Hollweg.
In a sick irony, Chris Simon's stick attack on Ryan Hollweg came on the three-year anniversary of Todd Bertuzzi's blindside hit on Steve Moore. The timing is just mind-boggling, E.J. Hradek writes.
Simon was given a match penalty for deliberate attempt to injure late in Thursday night's 2-1 loss to the Rangers. The length of the suspension won't be determined until after a disciplinary hearing, scheduled for Saturday.

In any incident in which the opposing player could have been killed, the police should be involved, no matter the sport. I'm not a big fan of fighting in hockey either, and would love to see it banned from the game as well, but it definitely is not as serious as slashing a guy in the neck or head. It's just sick that a player can get away with something like this, still get paid millions, and return to the game after a set suspension, yet he almost killed the guy.

I'm a fan of fighting in Hockey. It's the roots of the Sport. But, where do you draw the Line for when the Police become involved ?? It just can't be random incidents. Why should'nt the Police be called on for players fighting. ?? That is Assault and Battery is it not ?? All it takes is one right shot to the nose or throat with a fist and someone could die. We've all seen what rich Athletes with highly payed lawyers can do. It would be dropped down from Assault to a Deadly Weapon to Midemeanor assault. And then all he'll have to do is tell school children not to hit people with Hockey sticks because it's bad. Like I said , The league should make it so tough on him that he'll just want to quit the league. After thinking more on this, the Team that the player plays for should be punished also, which would hopefully make A-Holes like Simon take an extra 1/2 second to think of the reprocussions.

Well, the Nassau DA is now looking into the incident. They're in the process of looking at the footage, so hopefully in a couple of days Simon will be pressed with charges. Here's the article:

"It was completely criminal," said Patrick Hickey Jr., 23, of Brooklyn, who blogs about the Islanders. "It broke my heart in a way. I was almost ashamed to be an Islanders fan for a while."
