2006 NHL Playoffs
Well the Regular Season is over, and its on to the playoffs! I still am shocked that my Rangers failed to win one game in the final games of the season to clinch the division, and now must face New Jersey after their unbelievable comeback against Montreal last night. Here are the match ups for the first round, with the team I think is going to win. Ill probably do the semi-finals, and conference finals when they come up.

Eastern Conference

(1) Ottawa vs. 8 Tampa Bay *Ottawa*

(2) Carolina vs. (7) Montreal *Montreal*

(3) New Jersey vs. (6) NY Rangers *NY Rangers*

(4) Buffalo vs. (5) Philadelphia *Buffalo*

Western Conference

(1) Detroit vs. 8 Edmonton *Detroit*

(2) Dallas vs. (7) Colorado *Colorado*

(3) Calgary vs. (6) Anaheim *Calgary*

(4) Nashville vs. (5) San Jose *San Jose*

I think teams need to watch out for Calgary (unbelievable goaltending), and San Jose is also very hot. And of course we cant forget the Devils, who are riding a 11 game winning streak.

Tampa Bay will probably not repeat this year, they just have a weak team compared to everyone else in the playoffs. I really believe they will get knocked out in the first round, but who knows. Its the playoffs, and anything can happen.

Im excited about the Rangers vs. Devils series, cant wait!

I think a lot of people are underestimating the Rangers but then again, I am a Ranger fan for life, so its partially biased I know they have been playing horrible hockey the past few games, but I think they have a decent chance to at least make it to the conference finals. Of course, I want them to win the Cup, but that is only going to happen if everything clicks at the right time. I think Lundquist is going to play spectacular, the way he has been playing all season long (had a few shaky starts). Other fowards need to pick up the scoring if Jagr gets shut down. The Rangers are really going to have to keep their defense at a high level of play, because with the Devils squad, the Ranges may not get several offensive chances. Its going to be a great match-up, and you can be sure Ill be sitting in front of my TV with the surround sound turn all the way up!

So thoughts, opinions, predictions?!?!?!!?!?

Well, I am from the Bay Area so obviously I will be rooting for the Sharks. Even though they lost their last game(probably didn't really care about it) I think that they will at least get to the semi-finals. San Jose all the way!!!

If anything is weak on Tampa Bay it's the Goaltending. I don't know if you watched Game 2 last night , but the Lightning played hard and the Goaltending was much improved. If the Lightning would've lost game 2 in Ottawa I would've said they're going down in the first round , but now the next two games are in Tampa, and now the pressure is definetly on Ottawa.
I still can't figure out for the life of me why Khabibulan left for a bigger paycheck to go to a losing team in Chicago. I know I just answered my own question, but Chicago is going nowhere never have , never will.

Ottawa has a long standing tradition of being knocked out early by weaker (sometimes MUCH weaker) teams.

Oh, how I hope that tradition holds.

Ottawa has worked so hard for so long to win a cup, that I almost feel bad about hating them.

What up Rod........
According to stats Ottawa never seems to be able to score more than 4 goals per game. Which one team scoring 4 goals in a game is alot, however it is a stat that seems to stump Ottawa.....

Being a life long Devils fan, I'm hoping they take it all. And seeing as they just beat the Rangers in game 2, they are on a 13 game win streak. They'll make it 14, then give up the next game. Rangers will see one win before being knocked out.

I think tis pretty much over for the Rangers. Im disappointed that they really didnt show up for the playoffs. I mean, Jagr sits out in a PLAYOFF GAME because of a sore body. Are you kidding me? Its the playoffs, and with a sore body, he should be playing every game. Maybe going back to MSG will give the Rangers a spark, because they need one.
