World Champions?
Why is it, that in so many sports USA holds their winners as "World Champions"
Since when does winning the World Series make you are world champion? You arent playing any teams from outside the United Stats (and a few Canadian teams) and its not like all good players actually play in the MLB, just look at the very skilled players in Japan, and other countries around the world.
This also pertains to basketball, I was just watching the Spurs game, and they kept being reffered to as the World Champions. Who did they beat to be crowned world champion?
Even in football (not soccer), there are teams in Europe, even if they arent that good.
Its just always bothered me that the USA pictures their teams as the world champions of every sport, but when have they proved it. I doubt the White Sox would have dominated the teams in the World Basball Classic, and the USA team didnt really do anything special in that either.
Anyone else not like this either?

I feel ya brudda. But I have to say this. Alot of players in the leagues come from countries around the world...they just happen to play in the U.S. When "world classics" sports tourney/Olympics come around who do these players represent...the U.S. Nope, their native countries. So it's the best of the best just playing in the U.S. = World Champs.
P.S. I think it's a pride thing...call me crazy

What are you two from Canada or something? I'm from the U.S. and I'll admit it can get a little bit ridiculous at times.

Just look at the world baseball classic though, there were plent of good players in japan who are not in the MLB... so I wouldnt say ALL good players play in the USA.
And no, I am not from Canada, and what would that have to do with anything?
And what does being jewish have to do with anything. Please take the stupid insults to PM. If you have an arguement or something relatively pertaining to the topic id be glad to read it, but other then that... use PM.

Dude, I feel what your saying but I'm gonna throw this out...Ichiro (Seattle). I think that it's just been going on so long that it's part of the past-time now. It dosen't bug me when they call the Spurs "World Champs" cuz I'm a huge fan...but call the Yankees "World Champs" and that a crock of Shi* LOL

The spurs would be annihilated in world competition. A team of NBA all-stars finished what... 6th? in the last world competition, and the Spurs are not a team of NBA all-stars.

Ouch!! I guess you're not a Spurs fan. Don't get mean dude, I'm just stating my opinion like you asked us to. Didn't mean to strike a nerve. The world champ thing has just been going on so long that it stuck and that's that.

How did you know? Just kidding I'm not. The reason I asked is because there seemed to be some slight anti U.S. sentiment that's all. I've been up for the past twenty hours and am working now so don't take what I said the wrong way and don't try and come back at me with your B.S. because I meant nothing by it, I was just curious. Next time you think someone's insulting you or something why don't you trying inquiring as to what they meant so things don't get taken out of context. Mazel Mazel, good things.

No, but the Spurs are a TEAM... not a bunch of selfish NBA All-Stars that don't play as a TEAM for 82 games of a season.
I'm not a Spurs fan, but I can go out on a limb and say that they'd most likely finish better than 6th place in a "world competition".
