Running and Gunning Tips
I didn't see another but i thought there should be one because run and gun dominates the servers as the most popular type of game played. This thread is more of advice for new players because I'm sure most experienced players have there own techniques which work fine for them.

What Is Run and Gun? The game setup will say no grenades, explosives, and mines, and sometimes snipers. The standard is 11 rounds with 3 or 4 minutes rounds on small maps. This game is also referred to as No boom or boomless.

What you need to do, to be successful.

1. Most importantly, don't stop moving. Side to side movements will make you harder target to hit especially by snipers.

2. Along with keep moving, means you should be jumping around because damage is minimal to legs.

3. I recently figured this out as probably the second most important thing. Be light, or keep your load as low as possible. Don't carry 2x Ammo, and as seal carry 9mm pistol and terrorist the f57 pistol. Why not carry 2x ammo some may ask, and my reason it will do you absolutely no good. The odds of you needing 5 extra clips are very very low, because most people on average will only get one kill a round and die after that. Plus you are more likely to pick up someone else's ammo. With sub-machine guns I usually make an exception to that though. Being light allows you to get to your position faster and in gun fight will give you a major advantage. A fast moving person going side to side makes for a hard target for snipers.

4. Communication is key in games, it's not all about you. I personally think it's the most annoying thing one no one is talking, and also it seems you will always lose when your team is talking.

5. The buddy system. We can't all be gods of socom, and rambo through everyone. Come up with a strategy with someone in the room. It's nice to have someone at your back, and people are grateful when you say their lives.

6. Speaking of rambo, sometimes you just need to post up in spots for a second. This game is notorious for camping if you haven't heard so you got to be aware. Look at popular spots from different angles. Make use of leaning and laying down. Your also more accurate laying down. Also try to go unnoticed in your movements, it helps to know that someone has trailed you halfway across the map.

7. High ground is beneficial in a firefight since your shooting down on somebody. It also allows you to scout the area.

8. Listen to your environment, a lot of times you can hear people running around. So turn up that tv.

9. I can't believe how many people don't know this but you can shoot through certain boxes. Also, you can shoot between the cracks of things like steel crates.

10. I can't help you much with this but some advise with shooting is just aim towards the chest because your guns recoil should kick up and hopefully you can get a head shot. When shooting your gun you don't have to shoot every round right away, a good player can reset himself if he misses with his first couple of shots and then take the kill. Be very careful with reloading, this for me personally is where I will sometimes screw myself over.

11. Don't get into clusters with your teammates!!! The enemy can easily kill you all if your standing next to each other because you end up shooting each other absorbing the shots and the enemy runs off with you all dead.

12. I think I missed a few things but I can't think of them right now so I will end on this. Don't be a dip **** in the room, and don't cheat.

If your wondering what to use it's all personal preference. I will give you a look at what I use and my control settings though. Favorite guns to use as a seal are hk5 with rifle laser and suppressor and IW with front grip and longer suppressor. As a terrorist 552 or stg with front grip and suppressor. My look speed is like 85%, acceleration is 70%, and dead zone about 33% and I use frogman as my setup instead of precision shooter.

This is goofy. 90% of all people who play run and gun don't run, and 50% of them don't gun (even if snipers are off, they use M16s).

What are you left with? A number. A number that I don't feel like calculating because I just made up the other ones anyway. The fact is run and gun has almost nothing to do with running or gunning. This might as well be a thread about the best camping spots and how to snipe with an M16, with a bonus section on lean glitching the left room of Killing Fields and the Fault tunnels.

Don't be literal with the game name and I don't know about you but I hardly ever see people snipe with the m16 because most people are garbage with them.

Something like that...yeah. If you want some True Run'n'Gun games..go play Halo.

I'd rather use something more akin to squad tactics on SOCOM. I do have a harder time finding games that way...but I'm patient.

S2 was a run'n'gun also, along with COD3. Don't tell people to play a certain game when they've been the Socom series for a very long time. Please show a little more respect to other forums members as you will get the same respect back.

I understand people like playing with "squad tactics". Unfortunately though, nearly all "squad tactics" in this game are a group of players camping a certain Doorway/pathway. Real squads do not exist in this game.

Flying around like a ninny doesn't make you any harder to kill. It only makes you look like a moron and you'll end up wasting focus on your prancing. Also, if you ever need to jump onto or over things, the best way to do it is to time your jump so that you can either go right over or climb up quicker. You can't time that properly if you're already bouncing.

I don't understand the camping tips in a "Running and gunning" thread.

Settings are non-negotiable. The only best setting is 100% look speed and 100% acceleration. There is no sense in limiting your potential turn speed when you can do it yourself as needed by not moving the analog stick as far. It doesn't take long to get used to high speeds and anything less than perfectly fast is setting yourself up to get killed.

I understand people like playing with "squad tactics". Unfortunately though, nearly all "squad tactics" in this game are a group of players camping a certain Doorway/pathway. Real squads do not exist in this game.

1. I've been with the SOCOM series a long time..and it's currently the sole reason why I'm buying a PS3. Show me a little respect. I do know what I'm talking about here.
2. I've also been with Halo since the beginning, and It's not about respecting other members..since I showed no disrespect, it's about recommending a game that is quite simply BETTER for playing Run'n'Gun. Halo matches are fast paced and vicious
I don't want to turn this into a flame thread or an arguement..so I'll leave it at that and I hope you will too.

3. Real squads do exist in the game. You just have to find a group that knows what team work is. As for camping a certain area? "It is not the duty of the defender to leave the objective unguarded just so his opponent sucks less."
If your opponent is dumb enough to keep throwing himself at a wall of bullets, why not stay put and let him come to you? You obviously have the advantage, It would be stupid to throw it away just because an unskilled gamer can't figure out where to throw a grenade or how to flank an opponent.

SOCOM 3 and CA are perfect games to set up a "more realistic" squad-based combat situation. I know this from experience, my friends list is populated primarily of those gamers I've come across that are actually into that style. My own clan is composed of only those types.
(coincidently..now recruiting a Marksman!)

Back to the subject at hand. In my opinion, the best Run'n'Gun games on SOCOM now are the ones that have handguns and assault rifles turned off. I can go all day with submachine guns and shotguns, with grenades for added fun :) The only map I don't recommend grenades for is Fault, It's just a little too imbalanced against the SEALs unless you know how to effectively use smoke as cover to get out of that pit.
In fact the most enjoyable (Again, in my opinion) are Shotguns only on Fault and Killing fields and Subs only on Devil's road (all small maps)

every "tactical" clan [S3] has faced has gotten destroyed by us, but if you tactical people want to play like that then go for it. "Tactics" simply don't work against good clans.
