The AG-94 isn't slower, it's one of the faster firing weapons.
The M60 and the RTK do fire slower, but those aren't assault rifles.
The AK fires at the same as most other assault rifles, with only a couple being faster. I don't think I ever said it fires faster than most weapons, but it definitely doesn't fire at a much slower rate, yet an equal rate.

While it may fire about the same or slightly slower than the other assault rifles, it does not hinder its overall performance. I do not need it to fire any faster, I can hit what I'm aiming at. If you were to use it, I bet you wouldn't even notice much of a difference.

I use it.
I notice a difference.
I still pwn w/ it.
Slower firing or not, the gun's hawt.

Going to Baghdad, and will be back in March of '09.
The AK-47 has it's advantages and disadvantages, just as any gun does.
IRL, the AK uses the oh-so-amazing 7.62mm round, that can penetrate straight through concrete wall at a decent range. Even though SOCOM does say it uses the same round, in the game they tried to make it more even by making all the assault rifles have the same power, no matter the bullet being used. That power being 3 shots to the chest at point blank range to kill. Try it for yourself.
Although, they do give it a more realistic touch by adding the inaccuracy on fully automatic fire and the faster rate of fire. This alone makes it an amazing close quarters rifle, for the same reason the P90 is.
Also, they allow for a medium scope, which makes it very multipurpose, considering any gun on the game is extremely accurate when scoped in.
I actually wish they could somehow add realistic gun jamming to the game. If they did, the AK would definitely shine and those ever popular SA80s would be thrown in the trash.
I've noticed that two shots will kill someone in the upper torso area. That second shot seems to finish them off. A shot to the neck or head is a one hit deal, obviously. It's a shame the AK cannot penetrate the vehicles (or any weapon firing a 7.62 or higher) in the game, that would be pretty sweet.
Spin, do you use the AK? How does it compare with other weapons you use?

Yes, I do use it on occasion, but due to the greater accuracy and available suppression and front grip, I tend to use the RA-14.
Great thing is, it uses the the same 7.62x39 round! :D
Yeah, my friend Bobby and I actually went and tested how many shots it takes to kill for each gun at point blank range about three days ago. I didn't trust what everyone else said, so of course I tried it for myself.
Disappointingly, every assault rifle and the RTK-74 all kill in three shots to the chest at point blank range. At further ranges it switches to four, then to five, then of course nothing.
We didn't check at exactly what ranges those changes take effect, but our suppressed assault rifle did take 4 shots to kill at 80 meters, while the unsuppressed still only took 3.
Also, all unsuppressed weapons stop being effective at 190 meters. Weapons with a suppressor 1 (including SASR, SR-25) stop being effective at 140 meters, while with a suppressor 2, you get a 160 meter range.
Yeah, a suppressed HK36 has the ability to shoot farther than a suppressed sniper rifle.
O_O
The only guns we found that kill in two point-blank chest shots were the Mk. 48, M60E3, M40A1, L96AW, SR-25, SASR, DE .50, and the Mark 23.
Anyway, back on topic, I do use the AK-47 because of it's very nice performance in close range gunfighting. For that reason, I usually equip it on small maps such as Citadel, Fault, and occasionally Killing Fields.
But, on any big map or small map such as Harvester, where there's too much open space and threat of a sniper, I choose the RA-14 because of accuracy and suppression options.
I tend to aim for the upper torso when using any weapon, so perhaps my second shot is hitting higher than the chest area, yet still lower than the throat, if that makes sense.
The only other assault rifle I'll use as a terrorist is the 552. I use the AK more, but not much more than the 552.
