its quicker to wait for a reload with your assult rifle which will do more damange than to get pistol out which does less damange and takes longer to get out than to reload so just reload

Um....I just wait to reload. It doesnt take that long to reload, if not the same time it takes to pull out your pistol. I stick with the assault rifle all the time, only use the pistol when I run out of ammo, cant find a gun to pick up, or when I am sniping.

Socom 3 needs a melee attack. Catch a guy camping he does not see you hit him with your gun or do a Knife kill.

It really does need a melee attack. It would keep you stealthy if you don't have a silencer on your rifle and it would conserve ammo.

ther actually IS a melee attack. you just go up behind and press x.

Only in Single Player, unfortunately. But, what I like to do in a gunfight and I need to reload is just move behind cover. If they do that while I still have 10 or less rounds left, I'll take that time to reload. 30 rounds vs 30 rounds seems a lot better than 30 rounds vs. 10 rounds.
