Crucible...Convoy...Terrorists
Crucible is actually a pretty Terrorist firendly map in Convoy if you play it properly. I've had a couple of wins with some good players on this map as a terrorist.
1. Make sure to have a couple of steady players spawn at the spawn point closest to the extraction zone. Have them rush up to just past the closest load zone. You can create a good bottleneck here. Plus, most Seals are busy at the other end of the map camping and trying to get their kills, so you won't be in for much of a fight.
2. Here is the order... technicals...tank...convoys.
Technicals...make sure to swerve like crazy and go clear out as many seals as possible. We all know where they hide becasue it's where we hide when we're seals.
Tank...clear a path for the convoys. Don't bother using the machine gun turret because you'll get sniped in 2 seconds. Stay on the main gun and shoot the road to clear any mines. Then keep a heavy barrage of fire on the mountain to hold back snipers.
Convoys...forget about the middle load zone and head right to the far load zone that is being protected by the terrorists from step 1. Swerve, swerve and swerve...stay off the main road whenever possible but don't be too fancy. Just get there. Hopefully, the seals will have used most of their AT-4's on the tank and your only concern will be mines and snipers. If you can get to the far load zone, you're 90% of the way there.
3. Use smoke. Smoke out the arch where the seals all camp before the trucks roll out. Smoke out the far load zone as soon as the convoy gets there. There will be more sniper rifles and campers on the seal side than anything else, so if they can't see you, they can't stop you.
4. Hold the load zone. Keep the seals back with any remaining technicals and the tank. Once the cargo truck is loaded it takes less than 10 seconds to get to the extraction zone.
Reasons the terrorists fail on this map:
1. They don't think they can win
2. They play it like a supression map.
3. They leave the cargo trucks at the spawn point for too long. If you don't move them in the first minute, you'll probably lose.
4. They give up vehicles to the seals. If you don't know how to drive effectively against snipers, ask someone else to drive. Don't take a vehicle just to jump out a few meters out of the arch. If the seals get a vehicle, you'll most likely lose.
Reasons this gameplan will work:
1. The seals don't expect the terrorists to actually have a plan. Every time I play this map they are more concerned with their kill count than actually stopping the convoy. As a terrorist...any plan is a good plan.
2. Most of the seals who are actually playing to win will probably die in the first few exchanges of gunfire against the vehicles. The rest of them are camping and sniping. Once the convoy is at the far load zone, they panic and don't know what to do. Most times they won't even mount an attack. If you can get the convoys past "Sniper Mountain"...you're golden.
3. Seals aren't used to fighting on the other side of the map by the extraction zone. They haven't found all the good hiding spots yet and they don't know the angles and lines of fire.
I don't claim that this plan is foolproof. But it has worked for me a few times. In fact, this has been the only way to win a convoy on crucible for me instead of just eliminating all seals. My hope is that terrorists will start acting like a team. I'm sure that once the terrorists start playing as a team, the seals will eventually change their method of play and this strategy won't work anymore. But that's the evolution of the game. I still haven't even seen anyone play an extraction map yet. That's what I love about Socom, as the players get better...so does the game.
One last note: I'm sick of everyone complaining about how easy convoys are for seals. They're easy right now because everyone plays seals. If someone gets stuck on the terrorist side they switch over before the next game starts. I'll admit that I do this sometimes, too. But I'm willing to bet that once people actually play for a decent period of time as a terrorist on these maps, the terrorists will start winning and then the threads will be full of people complaining that convoy maps are too easy for the terrorists because they get vehicles. Any way...sorry to ramble but I hope this helps and I look forward to hearing feedback or other ideas for the terrorists to take it to the seals.
