Rustier's Sniping Tips and Tactics

There are a lot of things that come into play when you are trying to snipe. This is just a guide that i thought i would throw up and see if it helps anyone. So enjoy.

Picking the right sniper rifle

When you pick a sniper rifle you have to take a look at your playing style. Are you very patient or do you like to run around and snipe while on the move (BUT NOT QUICKSNIPING). If you like to take your time and are very patient you should go with the SASR or the SR-25. I would say you MUST have a suppressor otherwise what is the point, give away your position? On scopes i would say a medium scope or on the SASR, probably a 12X scope, unless your playing small maps, then i would go 4X. If you are a person that likes to run around and shoot, I would say get one of the more heavy duty sniper rifles, like the M82A1A or the M87ELR. Then tack on a high scope and you can zoom in as much as you'd like.

Bipod

The Bipod is the most underated Armory choice in the game in my opinion. If you are a person that likes to camp and snipe, you must utilize the bipod. I know its more weight but your camping anyways lol. It increases your steadiness and accuracy a lot when you are laying on the ground. Try it in your next game and you will see how much of a difference it will make.

Pistol for sniping

You can't snipe very effectively if you do not have a good pistol. You have to choose a pistol that has a lot of rounds, so you dont have to keep reloading. Your firing rate is precious when you only have a hand gun. I would use a non-silenced handgun beings as it seems to be more effective for me. The two popular guns that i use is a M18(Single shot, very accurate) and a 226 both with pistol lasers.

HAve fun sniping!

My favorite gun to snipe with is the STG 77 or IW because you can get a medium scope and silencer on both.

LOL..I haven't heard of the AWP in five years man! God I miss CS, especially being a Terrorist on Assault!

I like the heavy sniper rifles but I try to avoid using them too much, the one shot kill can make you lazy, I try and use the IW with the high scope and supressor 2, that way you can defend yourself effectively if they get in close, while being able to snipe without revealing your position every time you fire. Plus, it's just good head shot practice since that is the only way to get a kill with one long range usually.

I would break advice down into several catergories for snipers:

1. Concealment: This is three parts, skin, position and relocation, on most maps a ghillie will be a lot of help, even if it isn't full of grass like Harvester and it weighs you down, the extra second it takes an enemy to decide what you are can be the difference between life and death. Second, chosing your spots, while some spots same like great sniping position, they are and everyone knows it and enemy snipers will be looking for people taking up position there. Third, relocation, if you are using a weapon that isn't surpressed, enemy snipers are going to see your muzzle flash, which means it's going to be a good idea to move, however, this is inherintly dangerous since movement will blow your concealment all together. This is something that is hard to teach, you have to find areas where you can snipe but easlily pull back into an area where they can't see you can move to another sniping position. This is something that will come with experience and knowledge of the maps.

2. Weapons: Personally, I do use the one shot sniper rifles. I don't think it's cheap, it's honestly the most realistic aspect of the game since in real life one shot from a sniper usually finishes it. That said, try to avoid using them too much, indoor maps they are worthless, but honestly, you get spoiled using them on the big outdoor maps. You really need them on maps like Prowler were the range is paramount to survival due to the wide open spaces, but it's not as satisfying as getting a long range head shot with an IW or M-16, plus when you get used to doing that and then go back to using the heavy sniper rifles it's amazing, enemies start dropping like flies!

3. Teamwork: Good teammates can make all the difference! Let's use small Killingfields as an example, say you are on the terrorists, coming from the north end of the small field map. Most people know the spots where you can snipe the seals door effectively trapping them in their own spawn unless they go up on the walls and jump down, which in itself is very risky when the Ts are using good snipers. One sniper with good skills can cover it, but two, each picking one side of the door, can lock it down! Here is the trick though, Fields has a lot of cover so if they jump down from a wall or get out the door, it is easy to all of a sudden find yourself with one right under your nose with an F90. That's why you should always pair with someone with an assualt rifle, or atleast, tandom with another sniper on the other side of the map so you can mutually support each other and snipe out anyone trying to run up on your counter part. If nothing else, jsut be aware of where your teammates are, if you see a concentration of them on one side of the map, it's usually safe to assume that you are good ont hat flank and watch the other direction the enemy may come from, on the flip side, if you see three of your gusy jsut go down in a blaze of glory, smart thing is to shift your field of fire that direction, because more than likely that is the direction they are coming from. Situational awareness is key.

4. Communications: Very simple, TALK!!!! Sniper have a tendency to be the eyes of the team, use them. The High scope is IMO, the best one out there unless it's a night map where it's range is nullified and the Thermal becomes useful. The 16x setting allows you to seem almost all the way across a lot of maps and you can give your team a major tactical advantage by calling out contact. If you see the enemy team piling out of their spawn rushing the left side of the map you need to yell that out so your gusy mvoing forward can adjust and not get caught with their flank hanging out in the wind. Also you need to communicate with your fellow snipers, they may have an angle you don't.

OK, sorry this is so long...

Oh PS...just for the record, I consider Quick Sniping to be an exploit and a glitch. I don't care if it takes skill to do, it isn't realistic and it is cheap and I will vote any team member of mine I see doing it, but that is just my opinion. Sniping is a chess game to me, it's about stealth and getting inside your opponents head! Quick sniping hopefully will be elminated in the next patch. Now if they could just do something about the spawn camping in respawn rooms!

I dunno if this is put somewhere else but i found that
SR-25 and SASR silenced shoot about 140 meters.
And the IW-80 shoots about the same range with a suppressor 2.

This is completely my opinion, but the high scope is the best in EVERY situation. I can quick scope very well so maybe that's where this is coming from, but the 12x is garbage. The high scope scopes in and out way faster and it has 10x and 16x variable zooms. The 4x is good in many situations, but still, if you can get used to the extra 2x of zoom, the high scope is better in close rang situations.
