~SNIPING TIPS AND TACTICS OF SOCOM 3~

for me, i have had the best sniping with a two man spotter and sniper team, my friend and I have never lost, well with just us, when its up to us at the end of a round or alone. Im the spotter, i take either an m14 w/ high power scope. or an IW80(AKA L85 or SA80) with a serpresser and a high power scope. and He, being the shooter, has either a 50. cal, or a SR25 witha silencer and medeum scope/ Dragunov With serpressor and a 12 power scope. This gives an advantage of someone watching your back with a automatic weapon for the shooter, and a longer rang more accurat shot for the spotter, two eyes on the target, and two rifles aiming at the target.
Even little things like distractions, i was playing harvester bomb plant on seals side with my friend, and the guy was above the bomb plant, i shot to distract him so he stoped dead and tried to hid, then when he stoped i kept him pinned down(this being done a little over 80 meaters) and my shooter took a better position to take the shot , and one silenced puff of air later the guy dropped like a frikin rock. This works for us i guess. what do you guys think? :D

the goal of s sniper is not to rush in and kill or be killed, i agree sometimes when lets say five peole do it and they are all like back at the base hidding and stuff, but what if you assign two or three people ( two to watch a specific target of intrest, and one to help the front line) what about that? snipers are suposed to take out priority targets, one snot one kill. ya know, and i know someone will come back and try to argue this statement but hey i tried

It also kills me when "snipers" complain about campers. The tactics are so similar, stake out an area and wait for some poor sucker to walk out in front of your gun, the difference being location and distance.

Assaulters are the real men in this game, the put their nuts on the line and achieve the objectives.

Watching targets, sniping from a isolated position is good for snipers to do. My point is that it is a team game, there is no point on anyone just sitting around waiting for the time to run out. Die or not, I will do everything I can to win the round. If everyone else is dead, there is nothing the pisses me off more then waiting 3 minutes because some stat seeker is going to camp and not try to win the game. The only thing that is good for is stats.....

thats fine, but id rather have two good shooters watching the bomb plant just incase the enemy gets the bomb, or something to that effect, its better to be prepaired for it and win, then have everyone out in the feild about 30 miles away from the target and no chance getting back. ya know

Ok when you are sniping dont bother with grenades just carry red smoke if you dont have a thermal and white smoke if you have a thermal, both of them are waitless. Dont bother with a Bipod the thing is a complete gimick it is basically useless it weighs about as much as an RPG, and it only works when you are laying down. If you can hit a snipe when you are laying down then the Bipod isnt going to change anything. Dont bother using red dots on your pistols, they also do nothing but put a big dot the middle of your screen which makes you less persice. Lead people dont fire unless you have atleast a 75% shot and shoot for the chest unless your aiming at a motinless target with the SR or SASR. Dont fire too quick especially if the target is a field like in Harvester. Wait till you have a good shot. If your gun isnt silenced move after every shot. If your playing a map with lots of other snipers like Storm Front use a 12x scope the first thing is the 16x doesnt see any further all it does is make things clearer at that range. (The smogg is what stops you from seeing far not the scope.) But you should use the 12x when playing with a lot of other snipers because you can shoot much faster, all you have to do is look their direction and zoom in once, while they are sittin' there like an idiot zooming in three times you should shooting them in the head. Also on long maps take the 50 cals I know the silencer is nice but they only kill at about 115 further than that it will take atleast 3 shots or may not kills at all. An IW or STG will kill you from 115, so you will have no real advantage. With the 50 cals you can easily kill targets at 130 meters and further if you shoot them in the head. Try to aviod using your pistol, they are very bad in this game. Try to find spots that are above ground lever but arnt at the top of the hill that everyone snipes from, those are the first places experiencedd players look. Try to position yourself so you are shooting at targets that are about 100 meters away, further if you have a 50 cal. There is NO reason to snipe at 50 meters you would be much better off with an assault rifle and a medium scope. Dont try to no scope people its not very effective, it might be cool when you do it. But even if you have your aimer right in the middle of a guys chest you will only hit him half the time, get out your hand gun its much more effective. The last thing I would say is use water to you advantage; go out to a place where you can crouch and land is atleast 50 meters away. You can shoot people who cant shoot you and if they try to come kill you with theyre autos you can snipe them when they are swimming. Ill add more things later or techniques/spots that are pertain to specific maps if it is requested.

huh.....ive been sniping alot latley and i always use the M4OA1, 12X Scope, and Bipod (unless im using the ghillie suite then i dont use the bipod) and I always get more kills than deaths and the majority of the time i have twice as many kills as deaths. Just relax when ur sniping and dont shoot to soon. Remember that when ur crouching you can move in ur scope alot quicker rather than when ur prone.

LOL the whole reason i tried using the M4OA1 was after watching Saving Private Ryan. I saw how that guy that is the really good sniper was using his rifle, and after the movie ended i decied to play socom and try to snipe swiftly, move slowly, and use accuracy (<--Thats why i used the M4OA1) and I think i have found my weapon, but every one has their own stlye so test out everything and u will eventually find which gun is your favorite.

Thats about it most of the other tips above are good and they covered most of it.

get the m87 or m82 with a any scope and a bipod. get the weed camo and prone anywhere where u can see a lot of ground and where u can keep hidden. as you walk around jump and move around a lot to avoid being shot and use your pistol for close range combat. (this is my tip so you can use a sniper at close range if your skilled with it) always lead the target if it is moving. try aimming for the head. if you are proning and have a bipod your rifle will not recoil so it is easier to get another shot at the target without losing sight of him from the recoil.

I disagree with your post. If you have the M87/M82 then why aim for the head? It's just a smaller target that's harder to it. My advice would to be aim for the chest with those guns.
