map difficulties
im playing on a rather bad wireless connection and my Socom CA wont load some maps.

it will freeze when i try to load certain maps like killing fields, harvester and some new maps ( CA maps )

the spawn point selection on lobby is a small block with a red dot in it rather than a level layout

and you may think its my connection but i have yet to be booted from a room that does load and my CD is in mint condition no scrathces, smudges niicks, etc.

what could this be?

It might be your PS2/PS3's fault. Give it a nice vacuuming and then give it another try.

If it still acts up after that, rent Socom and see if that disc does the same thing.

You just said you had a bad connection, I bet you're a four star! Get a better connection and I bet it will work fine.

What you have been saying has happened to me. I cleaned my PS2 and everything worked fine then so Try this:

You're now at phase one of fixing your PS2 yourself without having to wait 6-8 weeks for it to be replaced by Sony.

WARNING! VOIDS WARRANTY! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION!

WARNING! TYPICAL RESULTS MAY VARY! POSSIBLE CHANCE THE OPERATION WILL NOT WORK!

First, we want to establish tools needed:

1) A very small Philips Head Screwdriver.
2) A pencil.
3) A few Q-tips
4) A small vacuum cleaner, or a gentle hand with a barely moist paper towel.
5) A bottle of FDA Approved Rubbing Alcohol.

Next, we need to point you to your warranty if you haven't figured out what it is:

The warrenty is the 1 inch by 3 inch black tape that reads,
Quote:
WARRaNTY SEAL
WARRENTY VOID IF THIS SEAL ON THE Playstation 2 CONSOLE IS BROKEN.
Now the fun begins :

Break that blasted seal!
WARNING! VOIDS WARRaNTY! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION!
On the bottom of the PS2, there are 4 rubber 'feet' and 4 plastic square pads. Pull them off and put them to the side.
Take your screwdriver and unscrew all 8 screws.
~Note~ Remember which screw goes where ~Note~
Now, lift the cover and pull towards you over the memory card, controller slot.
~Note~ Take care NOT TO RIP the power ribbon. I ripped it and had to buy a completely new PS2... ~Note~
You now see a miniture version of hell. Take the vacuum/towel and clean out all the dust in the air vent and silver slits.
Next, use the small screwdriver and unscrew the cover for the disc tray. Set it to the side.
Now, take your rubbing alcohol and Q-tips and clean the lens by dipping the tip of the Q-tip into the container of the rubbing alcohol. Do not get it dripping wet.

You have just performed a simple maintenance session of your PS2. Test to see if this possibly was the problem. How to Test:

Replace the cover to the disc tray only and push down gently to keep in in place. You don't have to put the main cover of the PS2 on. Turn on, put game in and try.

If it still doesn't work...:

We move to the technical part of the operation.
Remove the disc tray cover and look near the lens.
You should see a small white pronged disc-wheel.
~Note~What this disc does, is that it raises and lowers the distance between the CD and the lens. You can see for yourself AFTER the next step~Note~
Make a perpendicular mark on the disc.
Special Step A-Now, rotate the disc three clicks clockwise to the right.
Special Step B-Test it (use procedure shown above).
Continue to do Special Step A and Special Step B until it works.

WARNING, IF YOU FOLLOWED MY OPERATION STEP BY STEP AND DID NOT GET SUCCESSFUL RESULTS, PLEASE NOTE THAT I WARNED YOU PRIOR TO THE OPERATION THAT THERE IS A CHANCE IT WILL NOT WORK. I WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE

Now... if you get the message, "Cannot Read Disc", you have a motherboard problem. This can only be replaceable by Sony. Call the number and send it in.

This has been a Cheesy Production. All Rights Reserved. Warnings has been posted. Will not be held accountable for failures. 'Disc Read Error operation' should only be used if the owner does not feel like sending in the said gaming consol into Sony. Use in only dire to extreme cases. Feel free to PM Cheesy for questions or Comments.
If this does not work it's most likely your game disk.
