I have a memory card that is not a playstation 2 original. Madden online works fine but on socom CA when i download the update and i restart, it goes to the DNAS part but then tells me theres a dnas error or connection error. Does that have to do with the memory card?

All your memory card does is store the game information and the network configuration. If your getting a connection error, your memory card has no connection between the two.
As SPER said, it's most likely a connection problem.

U need a sony ps2 memory card to play network gaming it is the most important. it saves your network configurations without the memory card your system cannot remember profile network data's. it's just like installing from the network access disk files on your system.
