A Progression of Weapons?
As more and more threads are created concerning the various weapons of S3, I can't help but notice several growing trends within the community. Specifically, players seem to develop a fix for a certain gun, which is then dropped as the player evolves and adapts to new situations. I'm proposing a Heirarchy of Weapons, similar to Maslow's Heirarchy of Motives, which players tend to follow, subconciously or conciously, as they develop within the game until they reach their full potential. Obviously, not everyone is going to follow this same path, but you can agree that this is a guideline to how a large number of players will play.
1. Familars: Players who have played S1 and/or S2 and just started with S3 tend to play with the guns that transferred over before picking the newer weapons (ie: M-4, M-16, AK-47, M-14, IW-80) due to their familiarity with them. This usually happens for a short period of time, depending on a player's curiosity of the newer weapons. Few players will stay with these guns without at least experimenting with others.
2. Simples: Players who have just begun playing SOCOM will tend to use guns that can guarantee them easy kills, such as the F90, Mk. 48, and M-60E3. They will stick with these guns until their skills or curiosity allow them to move on to more advanced weapons. A player may stay with these guns if they are either unable or unwilling to challenge their skills and move to the next level.
3. Intermediates: As the players begin to experiment, they will eventually find weapons that will allow them to play at an intermediate level; ie: weapons that can enhance their sniping, aim, spread, or sight. Example: the M-16 allows players to get a beginner's course of sniping without forcing them to deal with the complication of switching to their pistol. Also, it allows players to focus more on their aim and burst abilities, ensuring faster kills.
4. Weapon fixes: After enough experimentation, players will eventually find a preferred weapon in nearly every category that they will tend to use when needed (example: players will use a 552 over an STG or AG, or the L96 over the M87 or SR). Players will find themselves most comfortable with these weapons, and find that they perform at their highest when using these weapons.
5. Complete familiarization: Players will be able to use any weapon effectively without pride or prejudice. While a player may still prefer a select number of weapons and dislike others, he/she will be able to play effectively with any weapon they select or are forced to use.
What are your thoughts on this?

Yea not trying to boast either but I consider myselft number 5, I can use everything from assualt rifles to sniper rifles to machine guns to sb machine guns. Including pistols. Although I do most of the time I'd say 2/3 out of every game I use the STG, IW, 552, or M4a1

Im not too sure which I am, if there was a noob option then sign me up.
I try to varify with the weapons, because I like to snipe but Im not good at it, I also like using regular assault rifles. So I combine the 2 and snipe with an I-Dub.
Basically, I didnt play the previous games, but I have deffinately noticed that the people who only began with SOCOM 3 try to stick to the guns which most people consider "noob" guns.

I'm at level 4. I can use the assualt carbide rifles how I want, but that's all I ever use. Every once in a while I'll pull out a SEAL sub or an ATK-47 but I don't usually bother with sniper rifles and machineguns, as they're mostly suited to prone.

I'm also at level 5. Some of my clanmates and I will play a game where at the end of the round, the winning team has to randomly pick up a weapon from the first dead body they find. Everyone starts with random weapons, so it's pretty fun watching players run around with God-knows-what strapped to them.

I strongly disagree with this one. Most people who try and run around with an MK or M60 do not get kills, unless it is in a very close quarters situation. Same goes for the F90. If you use any three of those weapons on an open map and do well with it, it takes skill. For example, I use the MK a lot. However, I use it as it is meant to be used, not as a spray and pray. I always equip it with a bipod and rifle laser, getting most of my kills while prone.
I agree with some of your "points" but not most of them.

I can see where you're coming from, but I'm talking only about players that just started playing SOCOM, not all players. I've seen a lot of inexperienced players use the F90, Mk. 48 and M60 because they CAN spray a lot and you end up with a much larger target area, allowing for less needed accuracy and precision. So, inexperienced players are given more of a handicap by using these weapons while they adjust to the game's controls. I didn't mean to say that these guns will ALWAYS get you a kill, but they make hitting your target a little easier if you're new to the game.
Of course, experienced players can find a way to make a more efficient use of these weapons (example: attaching front grips, lasers, and bi-pods, or going prone for added accuracy).
