Once you get it working, put the mic in for fun and watch the game crash cause that's the problem with the fat PS2s it seems (at least some of them).
Guess you just have to deal with not being able to use a mic if you want to play the new maps....But those are the kind of things that happen when a new map comes out (hence the 2 week trial).

Sounds like someone is envious that they don't have a slim ps2

Reason being, I switched banks and that original debit card that I signed up with I no longer have.
Any help / advice would be appreciated.

No it doesn't have to be the same one you used to register your name. I used a different one and I had no problems.
I have no problems with the maps at all. What I did was used iTunes and format my music off my iPod Shuffle 512mb and made the whole device for Data only. Once I did that, I plugged in the iPod in the ps2 and started the game up. I DL'd the patch and restarted. I then went to the Socom Store and Purchased the Maps since i'd end up buying it anyways.
I entered the CC info in and waited a good 10 minutes for it to DL'd the maps. I restarted the ps2 and was able to get on the Maps no problems. Some lag yes, but the speed was better later on. My mic also works as well.
Now for my brother, he's having problems with his. He did not purchase the Maps but has the iPod 1GB. He has the problems you guys are having, freezing, 10 seconds into it he gets kicked off and/or booted. He gave up and I jumped on. I switched the iPod from the bottom usb slot to the top, jumped in a Respawn Liberation and had no problems at all. Like -envy said on the previous page, he has no problem with the Maps now, but the mic HAS to be disconnected. It may be another port problem but it's too early to know for sure. Who knows, maybe you HAVE to buy the map pack to jump on the freeway instead of being stuck in traffic. I wouldn't doubt that one bit.
I'm going to jump on -envy's fatty ps2 and see if I can get anywhere. I'll let you guys know if I find anything. I just think it's weird you can't use your mic and the usb flash at the same time.

Okay, I'm having no luck here. I'm a verified user and here is what I've done:
1. Downloaded the patch. No problems here and I've played a lot since then.
2. Went to the store and "purchased" the new map pack. Filled out all the info and all that stuff.
3. Downloaded the files onto my flash drive. Everything downloaded successfully.
4. All new maps are still listed as "unavailable" and it says I have to purchase them to see them. When I go back to the store, it says they're purchased.
I've tried this with two separate flash drives - one I've had since February and another I just bought today for this.
What am I doing wrong?

Purchase them again, but this time dont fill out the Credit Card information if you're already verified.

The first few nights my maps worked then stopped. so i plugged my mps/usb flash drive into the other slot. Work perfectly. But if i do that i cant use my mic because the mp3 player is just a little big. Does anyone know if running it from a usb wire will work?

I found a way to play the new maps with the MIC. First, it's the same as above, play the new maps without plugging the mic but the flashdrive first. Then, when you're in the lobby, plug the mic in. Make sure it's a new map so now you can talk with the mic. Then g^ and try to see if it works to play with the mic. I did and it successfully works!

I did not try to play any of the other socom 3 maps last night so I dont know if the problem is just with the new maps or what. On a side note, the frustration I experienced after about 10 tries while my clan was on enjoying the new maps cost me another broken controller. I hope that some of the above posts are right, about the crappy servers not being used to that kind of download traffic, and they will eventually work.

Yeah they really get you on the controllers don't they? I am on my like 3rd one this week.

hey, i read all 20 some odd pages and i didn’t see anyone with this issue that I am having. I purchased/downloaded all 3 new maps to my psp; I then restarted everything and tried to go into a room, but it says, word for word, " Join game failure. downloadable content file verification failed. Please visit the Community, Socom store, Downloadable Content page in socom 3 online and download the downloadable content files again." when i hit continue it says " You have encountered a joining error."
i dont understand what i could be doing wrong. i followed the instructions on the socom main faq/help page. here is the faq/help for using a psp with the mappaq. word for word.
How do I use my PSP(tm) (PlayStation® Portable) system as a USB Mass Storage device?
You must first connect your PSP(tm) system to your PlayStation®2 system using a USB Type A to Mini-B USB cable. Then, turn on your PSP(tm) system and select USB Connection from the Settings home menu. Your PSP(tm) system must remain on and in the USB Connection mode in order to use it as a USB Mass Storage device. If the PSP(tm) system is turned off, disconnected from the PlayStation®2 system or the USB Connection mode is exited the SOCOM 3 Map Packs will no longer be available for play in SOCOM 3. It is recommended that you leave your PSP(tm) plugged in to prevent the battery from becoming discharged while you are using it as a USB Mass Storage Device.
here is a little info on the hardware I am using.
* First Edition PS2
* Sony PSP
* Standard USB connection for the PSP
any help would be appreciated. thnx in advance.
