Do some tests with it... Go offline and use the mic. If you do a whole mission and never hear a word in the mic, get a new mic. If you can hear them, look into fixing the router.

Router Fixs
New router fix. After 2 Months of being frustrated and not having a good reason as to why i couldnt get my mike to work all the time with my router i have finally come up with a solution. I have a netgear wrg614v5, but this may work on others. The problem i believe is that the dchp on the wireless router was constantly causing signals to bounce back to the other computers hooked to the router and never actually accessing the outside world. These are the steps i took to repair. I set the router to reserve ip addresses for the mac addresses of my computer laptop and ps2. The ps2 was previously configured. to a ip of 192.168.1.40. I set my pc to a static ip by going to the control panel, clickin on network connections and then right clicking on the existing connection. Scroll down the list you see infront of you to the tcp/ip and set the ip address to on that makes your router happy. Mine is set to 192.168.1.3. subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and default gateway will be your routers ip mine was 192.168.1.1 the dns should be set to this as well. I then Configure my udp and tcp according to the normal socom 3 reccomendations. and then disabled my spi firewall by checking in the box next to it. i put the ps2 ip in the dmz and checked that box and then checked the box that allows the router to respond to pings from the internet. The udp tcp and dmz are probably redundant but i know for a fact the spi firewall needs to be disabled as well as the ping needs to be enabled. I am no connected to the internet with no issues and i have 100 percent usage on my headset. Feel free to ask any questions or to post if you have been able to adapt this how to with a different router. Lets here some succes stories guys. I know this works. good luck

Question MIC PROBLEM W/ NETGEAR WGT624v3
I have a NETGEAR WGT624v3.....

I've tried all the mic fixes and have made some progress.

If I start a new online game, my mic works fine.

When 1 player joins the mic still works; 2 or more players the mic doesn't work.

If I join an existing game, the mic doesn't work.

Any suggestions? email pato@optonline.net

Before I had a chance to verify my account I had it taken away from me(online capability). Its been about a year since then. My dad said i couldnt use his credit cards. so i asked my mom she said that would be fine.

I used it but i seem to recall that the card owner has to live in that address where you play, which my mom doesnt.

I tried a debit card but even though Im not charged monthly from SOCOM I am charged monthly from the company. So can I get a debit card use it for a month while they verify then cancel the card later?

And if not... what do I do??

Thumbs up
This mic thing has been really frustrating, but I just did something that finally worked for me. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner.

I had tried setting up the ports but that never worked. I could never talk or hear. So I was playing with the cable from my PS2 plugged directly into the cable modem. I could talk & hear fine but you can't get on the net cause the router is not plugged in.

I realized that I had an extra switch lying around so I used that. I now have the Linksys 10/100 Workgroup switch plugged in between the cable modem and my Linksys Wireless router. One cable comes off the switch and plugs into my PS2. Another comes off the switch and plugs into my router, which allows me to use my home wireless network and the PS2 at the same time w/o having to deal with opening up ports to play. The switch is about $40-$50 but I'd say it's worth it to not have the headache.

Amazon.com: Linksys EZXS88W EtherFast 10/100 8-Port Workgroup Switch: Electronics

Just remember that anything plugged in the switch does NOT have a firewall to protect it. For your PS2, it's fine but not a laptop or desktop. Later.
