what i dont get is, when i go online and joina random room for the most part my mic works fine with out having to open any ports on the router... but if a friend of mine that lives down the street from me comes online and joins the game my mic dies, all the time... if hes on first and i enter game.. my mic will never work... if he leaves sometimes it kicks in and works but then when he comes back he cant talk... are our routers clashing or something... i mean i dont see what opening ports on my router will do if for the most part as long as im not playing with him it works... does this make any sense to anyone? please? im ready to toss my ps2 out the window, im so frustrated with it.. lol

I dont have a router I run an ethernet cable straight from my modem to my PS2. Anyone who knows what Time Warner Cable is I just got their digital phone service and they took my old modem and gave me a new Arris modem and ever since then my mic hasnt worked. I know other people who have the same modem but they also have routers and their mic's never stoped working. Maybe that would fix it? But before I go buy a router I figured Id ask around. Ive emailed them and they said they dont know whats wrong. Ive seen places that it says ports 6000-6999 need to be open. If thats true how do you do this and is it safe? Can some one please help. Thanks to anyone who can.

Headset Problems Too! & I don't use a router
Folks,
I am having similar problems that a lot of you are- I can not hear or speak using headset. This just happened yesterday. I DON'T use a router! I go directly into my modem. I too would appreciate any help that can be given, I feel everybodies pain

Let me clarify that the headset does work in single player. I can hear and issue commands
