Ak-47

I couldn't find any threads specifically on it, so I figured I'd write some tips to help my bored mood at the moment.

Recently, I have used the AK-47 more than ever. My main assault rifle of choice (when playing as a terrorist, of course) had been the 552, but lately I have been using it less and less. I like the AK for various reasons. One, it is pretty powerful. It will take someone down with ease. The look of it is a classic terrorist appearance. Hardly anyone uses it, but you can find ammo on dead bodies quite easily. Also, the sound of it is very deep and distinguishable. Since not many people use it, if it's heard, the enemy know someone with skill is behind the trigger.

When I choose the AK, I only equip it with a rifle laser. Even if I am playing on CA maps, I still leave the extended clips attachment off. I don't need more than 30 rounds to bring someone down. Because I only use the rifle laser, my weight is greatly reduced, allowing for either heavier equipment to be carried, or the ability to move faster, which is a great advantage.

The AK only has two fire modes: semi and fully automatic. About 90% of the time I will have it set to fully automatic. However, if a target is far away, I will throw it to semi and take my shots. Although I do not have a scope, I have found that firing one shot at a time when on both modes, the accuracy is increased when it is on semi. I do not know if this is a fact, or just my interpretation, but it works for me.

If you find yourself engaged with someone, the AK can hold its own if you do not let up on the trigger. However, if you or your enemy gets behind cover, do not continue firing. Much like any situation, if you continue to fire on the enemy while he/she is behind cover and you are not, chances are they are reloading, waiting for you to be empty. When directly engaging someone, your best bet is to fire away. Not much can be given on aiming, at least when talking about special hints for the AK. Aiming is just like any other rifle, aim for the chest.

Perhaps you come behind an enemy, and they do not know it. Depending on distance, I would drop to a knee and fire in short bursts of two or three. If you can, try and get closer, just to ensure your kill, although if your aim is on target, you won't need to be. If your target is further away and you do not wish to persue them, flip it to semi and fire at their back/chest. It does not matter how fast or slow you fire the AK on semi, the accuracy stays about the same. I don't try and fire as fast as possible with a target far away, though.

That's all I can think of at the moment. If you don't normally use the AK, try it in your next game. We all know that sometimes some guns don't work for us, so if you fail the first time, give it a second chance. Many times after a game is finished and we are in the lobby, I will hear positive comments about my use of the AK. Of course, this is only if I did well.

I hope this helped anyone in search of a new assault rifle choice. I don't know how many of you will actually try it, but it is definitely a weapon that should be given a chance.

You're the man, Scuba. Thanks for the tips.

I do like the thought of using rifles like the AK against the opposing team.

Any thoughts on using the medium scope on the AK? It seems that when you fire rapidly while scoped in, the scope doesn't recoil tremendously, allowing you to put alot of rounds right on target. Could be a slight glitch, though.

I believe it to be a glitch, because I used to use the AK with the medium scope. However, it wouldn't do that 100% of the time. Most of the time (I haven't tried it on CA so I do not know if it was changed) you could fire in fully automatic while in scope and you would not be taken out of the scope or have little (if any) recoil.

When I did slap a scope on the AK, I found it to be a harder weapon to use while running and gunning than I did without it. If you want a good assault rifle that can fit a scope on it and still maintain the features favored by run and gunners, I would say use other rifles, like the STG, M16, or 552. Of course, this is just my personal feelings. Try it out with and without a scope. I just find that if I want to not be a full on rusher and snipe a bit, I will use a different gun, mainly the 552.

It would also help your "sniping" gameplay (when not equipped with a scope) with the AK if you practice hitting your enemy from a distance, as I described. Try flipping it to semi for further targets, it may work for you, too.

As I said before, not many people use the AK, so if you do well in a room, you're bound to get comments on it when in the lobby. Like many rifles, the AK fires the 7.62mm round, so ammo is all over the place. Hopefully this helped, if you need anything else, let me know. I have yet to use a different assault rifle as a terrorist since posting this thread (as well as in the past month or so) and I couldn't be happier.

I don't like the AK it's too inaccurate for me. I like weapons that accept front grips.

It's AK47, not AK-47. Also, magazine not clip.

Obviously you don't know much about the game. If you did, you would see that I am correct on both items you tried to correct me on. Make sure you know your facts before trying to prove someone wrong.

Bob, I don't know if it was fixed. I only used the AK a few times during S3 and when I did use the medium scope, it didn't have any recoil, but like I said, I don't know if it's been fixed.

Razzor, I like that thought, too. Another reason why the AK works for me.

Well, they did fix the recoil bug. The only way to use it now is to use an MG (maybe some assault rilfes?) with around 3x zoom and compensate (drag the scope down). Because you have to compensate, this probably isn't a bug.

The best part about the AK for me is everything about it. The fire rate, the sound, the stopping power. Even though it isn't very accurate (compared to other guns) you can put your sights on someone and hold down the trigger with at least some efficiency.

It is true that what you're talking about is a magazine, not a clip. However, in Socom they call them "extended clips" so you are not really wrong. Zipper's research department probably called in sick that day.

finally, someone with the some appreciation of the same hockey team and assault rifle. I pack an AK depending on the kind of combat I will be facing. If it is CQC, I will use the laser, but long range battles, I like the regular crosshairs. If I want to play the supportive role, I will noobishly pack the extended mags, just to lay suppressive fire down for my teammates. So yes, I too love the feel of the AK in the latest SOCOMs, but I would be lying if I said I hated it in S1 and especially S2.

The AK-47 of SOCOM 2 was a little bit different you can say, it had semi, 3 round burst, and fully auto settings. I liked the spray pattern it sent out during a long duration of fire.

Yessir. I'm totally using that in a video at some point. But yeah, that says AK-47, and in Socom CA you get extended clips, not magazines.
