Socom Strategy Guide-January Release!

Introduction

The Socom 3 Strategy Guide "By the Players For the Players"

Welcome to Socom 3.com, the largest Socom community in the world. This strategy guide was designed, made, and written by real Socom 3 and Combined Assault players; not just any person at a cubicle at Brady Games or Prima. Inside, you will find tips and tricks to weapons, attachments, vehicles, listings that will show you how to use each piece of equipment to its fullest. Map strategies are also included, so that you can learn every map and all the strategies involved like the back of your hand, providing you with the tools to dominate the multiplayer aspect. The cool part? This isn’t even scratching the surface! There is plenty more to learn whether you are new to the game, a seasoned veteran, or a Socom legend. This guide will provide you with all of the information needed to step up your game, or even start it!

Due to the lack of members/the dropping out of some members, and family issues over the past couple of months, this release of the strategy guide is not up to par with previous installments. We apologize for this, although we are hopeful will be able to provide the community with a full version next month.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This month's featured map is: ECHELON

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Tips:

1) Don't move by yourself.

2) In the center area, dubbed "Bomb Pickup Lane", do NOT bunch up together in a group, as grenades will come flying in. Space apart so that you can get an angle on anyone who's in front of you. If you can see him, and so can your teammate, that's double the death-scocity splashing towards your foe.

3) Moving in the tunnels within the stadium, you'll be pressed to find out something quickly if you move by yourself... Guys hiding behind walls will wreak havoc on your game.

4) While moving on the ground area, you must, I repeat, MUST use the walls and surrounding areas to your advantage. While moving forward, take some time to hide behind a wall and use third person to look around it. After you've been satisfied as to enemy concentration above you, and think it's safe to move forward, then you press on, moving to the next location that you deem to be safe to hide behind and scan the area ahead of you.

5) If you've got a scope on you, don't be afraid to use it at all times. Don't be afraid to take a gander at what's ahead of you, and light up whosoever's head happens to be within your reach...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

ECHELON STRATEGIES-SEALS

Suppresion:

Strategy - Make sure that you take over the stadium, first of all. After which, you can deal w/ the road ways, and take out their spawn point 1
.
The enemy can run from their spawn point 1 towards the top area of the stadium and take it over. That's where the bulk of the difficult fighting will happen. My advice to you would be to rush the stadium w/ 2 teams. The bulk of your team should be concentrating on taking over the stadium, and making sure no enemies can enter the stadium after you've cleared it out.

After that, have a sniper, and about 2/3 other units assault the "Bomb Pickup Lane". The sniper provides long range coverage while the other people scope in at any point of opportunity and take out the enemy units that may happen to be in front of them. If they see nothing, the sniper still covers them from afar while they move up from obstacle to obstacle. That'll help to clear out the lane, and then move to their spawn point one.

Also, you might want to be very careful while advancing, as the ridge on the stadium that overlooks the "BPL" will most likely have one or two guys. So every so often, take a gander up there to make sure there's no one there.

Control Points:

Strategy - Have your team spawn at 2 different spawn points. Make sure you move in groups of two, and to stay close to each other, but not as close as to get grenade shrapnel shoved up both your a**es.

If you want to play it safe, play it like this; 2 teams of 2 each take over the nearest spawn point, and lay down claymore, mines, whatever possible in order to keep the nav point under YOUR control, make sure the enemy DOES NOT grab any of those nav points. Then, the rest of the team should move out in force and take the third navpoint, after which, the overall force of your units should remain the same @ all nav-points.

If you want to go all out, play it like this; 2 teams of 2 each take over the nearest spawn point, and lay down claymores, mines, whateve rpossible in order to keep the nav points under YOUR control... Here's where it gets fun... The third group that comprises of the rest of the team, should move out in force and take over all the nav-points.

Think how you'd feel if you saw 8 people rushing towards your nav-point? I don't know about you, but I'd be surprised/scared/shrinking my balls like all hell!

Demolition:

Strategy- As with ANY demolition match, you should play it like this to make sure you get a win... First thing is first, never attempt to pick up the bomb first, as it will always be watched. Instead, move around the area, with disregard for the bomb, because as soon as it's picked up, you know the location of the man who picked it up, and can make a straight (and quick) rush for the area between the bomb plant and the bomb and take out whoever happens to be in your way.

Clear out the stadium, and get a large force moving to their bomb plant, to take out any snipers/so forth.

Make sure that 3 things are accomplished before you try to take the bomb and plant it.

A) The enemy's thoroughly thinned out.
B) The MVP on their side is dead
C) They have about half remaining numbers as you do.

This should make for a very easy run towards the enemy base, and a decisive win with a quick victory for your team.

And remember, for your team? A draw is 200% better than a loss.

Breach:

Strategy - This is hard...

Remember this, with every breach, you'll most likely encounter an enemy or two. Don't expect EVERYONE to survive, so remember that some of your teammates will die, so you need to stick together in twos to help minimize that effect to your team.

Try to do it like this:

Have the weakest players (sorry weak players!) breach the breaches and rush through, they'll be the "sensors". When they push through, if they meet w/ resistance, they'll fall back, and throw grenades and rush through. Wash, rinse, repeat all the way towards the bomb plant.

When you're @ the bomb plant, do not, I repeat, DO NOT rush to PLANT...

Instead run around the surrounding area, clear out any campers, then plant the bomb.

Don't be stupid, and rush, plant, get murked, and give the other team points for defusing...

Small Suppression:

Strategy - What else is there to say?

In this all out frag-fest, the objective is to completely obliterate your enemy, one way or the other.

From where you spawn, they spawn to the WEST...

I think you know how to do this... But if not, I'll let you in on a strat. for this map!

As soon as you spawn, have a group of guys suppress the enemy's spawn point by throwing massive amounts of grenades, after which, set up snipers to camp the right and left tunnels, have everyone move out from the center out, and clear from their end of the stadium to the opposite end.

After which, have them move upstairs to the balconies, and snipe from there. That should allow you to gain the advantage on anyone that you happen to meet in any game in ECHELON small.

ECHELON STRATEGIES – MERCENARIES

Control Points

Spawning in the Parking Garage

- Spawning in the parking garage could allow for two quick nav points. If possible, have a couple snipers watch the other end of the street, towards the SEALs spawn on the outer part of the stadium. Using smoke may help your cause in getting to the point a little further north. After getting the two right outside the spawn, have a few people move up the street through the smoke that is probably still visible. The smoke can obviously block your snipers’ view, so watch out for any SEALs coming out of the stadium. After capturing the three points outside the stadium, you have the option to camp the nav points or help your teammates inside the stadium

Spawning in the Stadium

- It is best to get as many people at this spawn as possible, without taking away from numbers at the other spawn. With the SEAL spawn on the other side of the stadium, resistance is pretty much guaranteed. The closest nav point is just a short trip from the spawn. Take it, but watch out for grenades. Get a few snipers to watch across the stadium to pick off any SEALs trying to make it into the stadium halls. After grabbing the nearby nav point, the options are wide open for getting to the other side. Go straight through the stadium ground, go through the halls, go around in the stands, go around on the street, or any combination of the four.

Demolition

Spawning in the Stadium

- Moving through the stadium may be extremely difficult since the SEALs practically spawn on top of the Mercenaries. The SEALs spawn on the west side of the stadium inside the halls. The best option is to find cover from any rushers and grenades. It may be good to leave a man back at the spawn to scout what the SEALs that spawned inside the stadium are doing. When going for cover at the beginning, don’t forget to watch the east, as the SEALs can enter from there very quickly. If you are able to get into the stadium hallways, make a break for the SEAL spawn in the parking garage. Eliminate anyone camping there and any snipers watching the bomb.

Spawning in the Street

- Grenades fly like planes at an air show on the street. Hold back and let the SEALs waste their nades or QUICKLY push forward. A sniper on the roof of the spawn building can prevent the SEALs from grabbing the bomb as fast as they want to. Keep an eye on the stadium entrance/exit to the south of the spawn, as the SEALs can get to that spot quickly. Also watch the stadium balcony for any SEALs trying to get a quick kill or two on campers. After allowing the SEALs to waste some ammunition and getting numbers, make a push toward the bomb, using frags to eliminate campers and smoke to hide movement. If the teammates from the spawn in the stadium make it to the parking garage, grab the bomb and start pinching the SEALs in and forcing loners to return to the base. Once the bomb is planted, make sure both entrances (catwalk and ramp) are being watched. Also be aware of red flashes signaling grenades from the stadium, street, or lower levels of the garage.

Extraction

Spawning in the Middle of the Stadium

- Since the SEALs have to come get the hostages, only one or two people need to spawn here and hide with the hostages. There is only one building on the stadium ground that can be entered. Take the hostages there and if desired, put a PMN directly outside the door. Just remember that if the mine blows with the door open and kills a hostage, the SEALs are credited with a rescue. Use your pistol or primary to weaken the hostages. If the door opens, stay near the hostages. If the SEALs kill a hostage, they lose one minute. If the SEALs kill two hostages, then the extraction is a failure.

Spawning in the Stadium Hallways

- Everyone that wasn’t at the other spawn should spawn here with a setup good for watching the stadium entrances. There are only two ways into the stadium halls. First from the catwalk, second on the far west at the ticket gate. The SEALs most direct route into the stadium is over the catwalk, so be sure there are a few volunteers willing to rush that side the second the round starts. A few snipers all the up would be could if some SEALs get into the stadium. Listen for teammates at the other spawn and snipers calling out SEALs that made it in.

Suppression

Spawning in the Parking Garage

- By spawning in the parking garage, you get a good view of everything but the inside of the stadium. Have a few snipers watch the streets and maybe pick off some aggressive SEALs. More than likely there will be some SEALs camping in the spawn building, so be cautious when approaching. Another option is to go over the catwalk into the stadium and possibly pinch the SEALs inside the stadium.

Spawning inside the Stadium

- Again, the SEALs spawn in the halls, but on the other side of the stadium, allowing an ample amount of time to find a safe location. Probably the best option at this spawn is attempt to win the gunfights in the stadium hallways. Find out if anyone at the other spawn is going over the catwalk. If so, ask them to break right when they get into the stadium to pinch in the SEALs.
- Having numbers results in a win. Don't make any stupid mistakes or try to get your kill count up when you are up by one player.

Breach

Spawning inside the Stadium

- Since it will be a few minutes before the SEALs reach this spot in the map, take the time to set mines around the target area. DO NOT FORGET TO CALL OUT THE EXACT LOCATION OF YOUR MINES. Listen for your teammates requesting help.

Spawning in the Stadium Halls

- Two or three people need to rush east at the moment the round starts. Any hesitation could lead to a death trap, especially if any SEAL is carrying an M203 HE to quickly blow the breaches. If you manage to get into the parking garage, attempt to pick off any SEALs still on the streets. Anyone else should sit in the halls waiting to pick of SEALs or watch the ticket booth on the north side of the stadium.

Suppression Small

- One spawn on the west side. Grenades WILL fly quickly. The best option is to get in the halls to avoid the grenades. Once in the halls, if you have a scope, utilize it, but watch for any SEAL snipers looking down the halls.
- A second option at the beginning of the round is to head into the stands and around to the SEAL spawn. Being all the way up top gives you a great view of everything below.
- The third, riskiest option is to rush on the field. There is only one building in the center of the field that can be entered, but the Mercenaries spawn closer to the door.
- This map is extremely even. The best thing to do it play smart and roll with a buddy to try and get two on ones.[/quote]

Suggested Weapons to Use

SEALS

M4A1
- This weapon is perfect for Echelon. The M4A1 has 3 fire rmodes, which are single shot, semi-automatic, and full auto. Suggested attachments for this board are either suppresor 1 or 2, and the front grip. Since you will be doing a lot of close and long range combat, this set-up will allow you to have the accuracy and power to defeat the enemy in both scenarios.

SR-25
- This is a great sniper rifle for this board it is very accurate extremely deadly. It is recommended that you use the SR-25 with a suppressor, as it will allow you to cover your position from the enemy. Using the medium scope will allow you to see as far as you need to see in the close quarters of the stadium.

HK-7- The HK-7 is perfect for the close quarters combat scenarios that will arise inside the arena. It is light weight and has very good stopping power. It has two fire modes, single shot semi-automatic and full auto. In addition, the extended clip can be used which will allow you to "keep up" with the mercenary's F-90. It is recommended that you do not use a suppressor, as that will limit the already shortened range of the gun.

MERCENARIES

STG 77- This is an all around great gun for this map. It is light weight, pretty accurate and easy to use. If you feel the need for a stealthy approach, attach either suppressor 1 or 2, lon gwith the medium scope. For a more "Run-'N-Gun" approach, use a front grip, and a rifle laser. Before you choose your weapon load-out for the STG-77, know your role so you will be able to accomodate the gun with the correct attachment.

SASR- Like the SR-25, the SASR is the prefered sniper rifle for the mercenaries for this map. It has very good accuracy and can be equipped with a suppressor. The 12x scope should be used with the SASR, although it lacks when compared to the medium scope of the SR-25.

F90
- This sub machine gun is perfect for the close quarters combats in this map, namely within the stadium walls. The F-90 has a ammo capacity of 50 per magazine, and is one of the fastest shooting guns in the game. Using this gun with a suppressor would be a wise choice, as it seems you will lose hardly any stopping power with it attached.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tactical Area to Utilize, for either team
  • A great tactical spot in this map is anywhere along the top of the arena, especially near the four aisles that lead down to the lower levels. Equip yourself with a sniper rifle that can be silenced, namely the SR-25 and the SASR. Every time you snipe someone be sure to move positions so the other team won't be able to get a location on you. It is also very useful to stay in the crouch position, since standing will most likely get you spotted. When moving, be sure to "hug" the wall, as it will break up the outline of your character, thus making it harder for the opposing team to detect you.
