Socom or Halo series discussion
First, sorry if this is a repeat of a past post, and yes its been beaten to a dead horse, but I could not find this topic. I was just curious to see what others think on these 2 game series, (online, storyline and campaign modes). Aslo any thoughts on weapons, graphics, replay value. I know most people are either PS all the way or XBOX all the way, and will live and die PS or XBOX only. However, for a good discussion on these series, the console bias need to be put aside. Other forums that I've searched, the posters are so pro PS or XBOX that it deters from the actually point: The games. Just saying "Socom is so much better than Halo. Halo is garbage", does not give a thought out reason.
SOCOM OR HALO...or BOTH?
In my personal experience with both games, each has different qualties that I like. For example, Socom online seems to out do Halo 2 on XB0X Live in most areas. One complaint about XBOX Live is having to pay $50 for a year subscription, or $7.99 a month. We all know PS is free. Free is always good, however, $50 isn't really that bad. I enjoy my XBOX Live experience, and Halo 2 online is always fun. One huge difference is the hit detection. Socom spoils because you can tag someone with a head shot and drop him instantly. Halo...well, we have armour that is basically a shield that will take a few shots to drop and then tag the enemy with a headshot. The 3rd person view is also a plus for Socom, as Halo only is only FP. If you've played goldeneye 007 for N64,which is still fun to this day, you know how it works. Socoms Online features such as the lobbies, chat, and maps are another reason it has an edge.
As for storyline, Halo wins hands down. Mind you it isn't the best storyline ever, but If you like sci-fi, your set. Socom is based on reality, and is suppose to be played in a military strategic mind. However, Socoms campaign mode is mostly mission specific and the storyline changes with different missions and does not usually have a continuous storyline. Halo is a trilogy which includes cliffhanger endings to keep us ready for Halo 3.
One poster on another forum suggested the idea that Halo was just offering what PC games have been doing for years in FPS. Its a valid point when you think back and see DOOM, Unreal Tourn...etc.....etc....
But what does that matter? Both are great games. Socom for online play never gets boring, neither does Halo 2, each offers something different. I guess it just comes down to that. If they're fun to play for you, and you can do so over and over, why bother worrying about such things. Well I would still say it's fun to discuss and get other players experiences. It's possible to throw Gears of War into the Halo spot now that GoW is the most played game on XBOX live. I will not go in to much depth and keep it short, but If you have played both series please let me know what you think about them in the most non-console bias you can be. Stick just to the games and their gameplay. There is so much that each game offers , you could write a novel about the 2 biggest console specific games.
My last question is...why isn't Socom part of MLG's Pro Circuit? Either way, you have to give congrats to the Halo teams that just signed million dollar deals. Thats a dream come true, MOS DEF.

I like Socom better for a bunch of reasons you already mentioned, but most of all is the controller.IMO Ps2 has the best user interface(controller) ever. Its ergonomic, accurate and easy to use.Every other controller including the"S" from Microsoft is not set up as good.Just my two cents.

Socom has a terrible single player but awesome online.
Halo is gay but has a "better" single player.... If you'll call it that.
EDIT - It's only good when a bunch of friends are playing together.

Gee I wonder what kind of responses you're going to get asking in a Socom general discussion.
This topic has been discussed many times. Maybe if you people ventured out of the socom forums you'd realize there are other forums more suitable for this.
**** single player, in any game, I buy games for online, I never play sp unless it contributes somehow to online.
Halo is fun, but it's overrun with all these leet nerds who only want to lvl^ and sound like the kid on pwned.nl. And it's overrun with kids, every room you're in you find a kid < 14 years old.
I've had more fun on socom, personally.

I feel the same feelings about Halo that you do otter. Its a blast to play with a ton of friends but I can't just hop on by myself like I do on Socom.

Unlocked. This kid makes a quality post so I say it stays open. Halo is amazing. Socom = terrible. Don't play Halo online, play with friends and you'll see why it's 10x better and takes more skill.

Yeah my post seemed like it was bashing Halo, I'm not, I'm just saying the cons I guess.
Socom of course has it's equally big share of kids, nerds, and more prodominantly now annoying grown men.
If you play halo with friends it's sooo fun, then again socom is too.

I only got SOCOM because it was modern war stuff. HALO was future crap that I wasn't into....but now I can see what a big mistake I made. HALO 2 is awesome and does take more skill...so many different ways to play it too. Unlike boring ole socom where it's rush or camp.

Superbouncing/BXR/Moding- Glitches kill a game. Modding is almost as prevelant as Code9 is in Socom. Superbouncing, although fun when PLAYING WITH FRIENDS, is a GLITCH, i dont care watch Bungies moronic staff says. They couldn't have possibly put that in they're physics engine purposely, and can't find a way to reverse it, so they won't release a patch. BXR is the same way, why in the bloody hell would they make a "cancellation system" in the game purposely? THey didn't, little kids are just playing this game SO much that they can find anything wrong with it and exploit it. The only thing about BXRing is that you can be killed when doing it, just as easily as if you weren't.
Balanced weapons? Yeah right! Halo is about weapon control, there is no skill involved. I dont care how good you [think] you are, if some idiot that just got the game is running around with the sword, you're ****ed. If someone has the rocket, your ****ed. Hell, sniping on this game is easier then any other game i've ever played.
This game CAN be fun, for about an hour. THen you run into stupid little peckerheads that do everything listed above, and yell and scream into the mic.
